David Corn swings at Palin op-ed, misses
Sarah Palin for President ^ | February 7, 2009 | Josh Painter

Posted on 02/07/2009 3:38:12 PM PST by Josh Painter

David Corn seems to have had an allergic reaction to Gov. Sarah Palin's op-ed in favor of opening up a small portion of ANWR for drilling. Corn opines:

This was his (sic) first stab at being a serious policy person since her unsuccessful vice-presidential bid. And it was swing and a big miss--for multiple reasons.
The first "reason" Corn gives is that the governor's opinion piece was published, not by a newspaper from New York or D.C., but the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. To liberal elitists of Corn's ilk, nothing worthwhile can come from flyover country. He must believe that the issue and the arguments made on either side of it are secondary only to the media outlet through which the arguments are made. Strike one.

For his second reason, Corn complains that the governor's op-ed on the ANWR issue "tells people nothing new about Palin." Then he asks if she has anything "smart" to say about Afghanistan and snarkily wonders if she can see that country "from the top of Mount McKinley." Had Corn bothered to read the governor's opinion piece, he might have learned that it was a response to the introduction of a bill in Congress which would permanently prohibit drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. As the governor of an energy-rich state at a time when the United States is dangerously dependent on unstable foreign sources of energy, this is a key issue for her state, and the introduction of legislation which would negatively impact Alaska gives her good reason to argue against it. What does "something new," Afghanistan or Mount McKinley have to do with drilling in ANWR? Nothing. Strike two.

Corn's reason number three is that he says none of Palin's arguments for drilling in ANWR are new. He doesn't like the old ones much, either. Corn dismisses the point that the area where drilling would occur has a very small footprint by saying that access roads, pipelines, etc. would have an impact. David Corn has never been to Alaska, and he obviously hasn't even seen photographs of the proposed drilling area. That lush mountain scenery is far, far away in the background. There's nothing but mud puddles for miles around the area where drilling would occur. The only wildlife which would be affected are mosquitos, and last I heard, they were nowhere close to being added to any list of endangered species. Corn completely ignores Gov. Palin's points about geopolitics, job creation, taxes on oil revenues which would help pay down the national debt and most of her other arguments. That's cherry-picking, but let's give the lib a break and call this one a foul ball. The count on Corn remains at oh and 2.

Reason number four given by Corn is "The op-ed reads like a political commercial" which shows "no style and no depth of thought." I can see how a straightforward presentation of facts without the sort of obfuscation that Corn regularly engages in would be considered unimaginative to him. The only way to sell liberal lies is with large amounts of smoke and many mirrors. Strike three.

And there is no joy in Libville — Lefty Pundit has struck out.

Has anyone ever seen in their whole life a bunch of libs so desperate to destroy this woman’s life. After all, what the hell did she do so horrible, run for Vice President, for that she gets all of this hell. I can understand people not agreeing with her on political issues, that’s fine by me, but all of the constant bashing is disgusting. She is a human being and deserves to be treated with respect. All of these haters should actually visit Alaska to see what a wonderful job she has done as Governor before they start spewing their BS. I haven’t seen this much hate towards a human being since Ronald Reagan. I wonder if there had been Internet back then, it would have probably been even worse

I've always suspected that David Corn has trouble telling a man from a woman...

The left immediately hated Palin for the same reason they hated Reagan. Jimmy had just about completed the mission of turning America into a third rate power and destroying faith in the free enterprise system. Along comes Reagan, and everything starts working again.

Flash forward. GOP credibility is in the dumpster, our presidential candidate almost has to be wheeled around on a hand truck and spends more time attacking people that endorse him than his opponent; conservatism is in total disarray, and here comes Sarah Palin and WE'RE ENERGIZED!!!! We're so energized we dang near drug McCain's corpse across the finish line. He REALLY had to turn his stupid gear up to overdrive to avoid getting elected, all because of Sarah Palin.

I'm nobody. The left would love to kill me as long as they can do it without admitting I exist. Sarah Palin? Man, they HAVE to kill her.

It's nothing personal, but she's getting in the way of what they want.

IMHO, Palin should continue a strategy of completely shutting out the national MSM. Regional and local media outlets are thrilled to break a story of national importance & they will be much more objective than the MSM. (They could hardly be less objective, could they?)

When Palin tours, and gives more of her rousing speeches before enthusiastic audiences — the local and regional media will cover those events. She should give their reporters exclusive interviews — no MSM allowed at press conferences.

He's a lib, he thinks men are women, well, at least the ones he hangs out with are.

Or maybe he thinks women are men, well, at least the ones he hangs out with are.

I can sorta see why he's confused, I mean besides being a lib.

Yes, but again. like Reagan, Governor Palin seems to be able to shake off all those vile comments and just carry on. I think we will see lots and lots of liberal heads actually explode in 2012 or 2016 when she will win the presidency.

David Corn is a gay urban radical. His lifestyle ends with his death.

Those such as he hate conservative moms. Their heterosexual fecundity offends him.

Bottom line, end of discussion.

It's pretty simple, really. It's a lot easier to make people dislike your opponent than it is to make people like your candidate. That's why Obama won, because the libs had eight years to breed hate against their enemies. It's the same reason that the middle east countries hates us, because the governments don't have any successes of their own to point to, so they blame it on us and use hate to control the masses. It's easy and effective, and it's what the Democrats are doing. They don't want to loose all that Bush hatred that they spent years cultivating, they are just going to redirect it toward Sarah, and try to use it against us again in 2012. They won't have any accomplishment to convince us to vote for them, but they will try to convince us to vote against Sarah. /rambling

Excellent. Corn is full of corn. These attacks aren’t paying the big dividends they had hoped for. Gov. Palin’s favorability rating is going up, her unfavorability rating is going down even faster. The majority of republicans want the party to be more like her. She’ll come through this attack by Ashley Judd over the wolves, even more popular then before.

This online poll shows Palin 60 percent Judd 40 percent.

Not a scientific poll but going on a quarter of a million votes, that means something.

1. Online polls are about as accurate as a poll of me and my pets.

2. I hate to break the news to you, but all you have to do is get out of the conservative bubble and talk to people and you will see that Sarah, rightly or wrongly, was seen as a "negative" on McCain's campaign. Most REAL polls showed this to be true.

She's got a long way to go if she doesn't want to turn out to be the next Katherine Harris.

I disagree, every poll I’ve seen show that about two thirds agree she was treated unfairly by the press, which indicates at least a willingness to take a 2nd look. The last Rasmussen poll shows her favorability at 52 percent, and that her negatives have dropped by 7 percent. The majority of republicans also said they would like to see the party become more like Palin. Sure, she has a way to go, but she’ll get there. You have to remember, 0bama’s favorability prior to the election was barely above 50 percent, and his “qualified to be president” rating NEVER got about 46 percent, always fluctuating 44 to 46 from May through Oct.

Sarah, it's all about abortion. Palin's decision to give birth to Trig has got these liberals smoking with anger and rage, like demons unleashed from Hell.
