Mildly ironic because WHIO has a huge percentage of old-school tube TV owners who still watch syndicated game shows and the local/national news religiously every night.

They are federal (WPAFB) and union retirees who manage to drive by vast empty acres of asphalt outside idled GM plants on their way to vote Democrat again.

Anyone here remember "Uncle Orrie and Ferdy Fussbudget"?

LOL - Or how about all those kids on Saturday's show sing/shouting:

"BHA means better home appliances, better home appliances, better home appliances"?

I guess I just showed my age.

The TV neteorks and cable industry are going to complete the transition this month because there is nothing to be gained by an additional delay. The politicians may not be ready but the country has been ready for HDTV for years now.

There are several Texas stations that are going ahead with February 17 as well. Lazy morons who have had years to prepare for this will probably catch on when all they can get is a snowy picture.

The cost of electricity to keep the analog transmitter on-the-air can be $20,000 per month. Factor in the maintenance costs and todays financial conditions and you can see why the broadcasters are anxious to shut them down.

Another factor is that some VHF broadcasters got UHF channels for digital and are going to move their digital back to the old analog frequency.

I lived in Lima, and we only got 2 stations - Lima 35 on UHF, and Channel 7 on an antenna in the attic that my dad made special for channel 7. That's all it got was channel 7, but it came in crystal clear.

Sure wish they had tapes of some of those Saturdays shows with the raincoats. It'd be a hoot.
