Just got off the phone with an influential Republican senator. I asked how things stood with the stimulus, and he answered instantly, "They've cut a deal with three of our guys. They're delaying us from offering amendments. I suspect that as soon as they've got it written, they will offer it as an amendment, vote on it, and that will be it." He didn't have details on what the deal might be, but most Republicans seem to suspect it will involve relatively small cuts — and very little change in the price tag of the bill from the House version — that will be touted as a major bipartisan compromise. My senator suspects — hopes? — that no more than four Republicans will vote for the bill.

If I were Steele I would call the 3 suspects up and tell them that support would go to another candidate in the primary, and even if they won their primaries, he would make certain they lose. Rather have an enemy you know that a scumbag you can’t trust.

Steele will do no such thing. The RNC will continue to shovel money at anything willing to wear an “R” by its name, that they think could possibly win. Regardless of how it actually votes.
If you’re a conservative challenger to a RINO incumbent, however... don’t expect a nickel from the Chamber of Commerce oops I mean RNC.

McCain is not one of them this time. He was talking on the Senate floor a few minutes ago, saying that the gang of 18 consists of 15 dims and 3 Repubs. Didn’t name names though
Republicans HAVE to ditch any turncoats on this. Yell loud and clear, over and over, that we don’t even consider them Republicans after this. That the Republicans completely reject this bill and the ones who joined to vote for it are to be considered Democrats for all intents and purposes.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong...but I don't think they do. I believe you need 60 votes to bring it to a vote. They don't have 60 votes without a GOP or two crossing over to allow it.
