WELL...we bought a house late last year, that HAPPENED to come with a new Kitchenaid Oven...with CONVECTION cooking.....well...had the repair guy out cause the derned thing does not heat well (Thanksgiving turkey took twice the time it should have)....HE said...because of all the stupid energy efficiency stuff....we have to preheat it for a very long time ($$$) before we use it, preheat the pans we cook in, too....and that the same is true of $2500 Kitchen Aids and $11,000 Wolf’s....

Your furnace demonstrates the power of diminishing returns. It'll probably cost more to get from 90% to 95% efficiency, than it cost to get from 45% to 90% efficiency.

There probably is some infrastructure spending that would generate a 60% return. That figure might have been based on past experience, where the only the best projects were cherry-picked. When hundreds of billions of dollars are being thrown around — a lot of those cherries will be old, rotten, worm-eaten things & they will actually reduce the GDP.

Who the hell does he think he is? If he wants something like this, let him talk to someone in the House and have them introduce legislation that can be discussed and voted on. Oh wait, Barry wants to be a dictator.

I wonder how many people DON’T know that 100% of the energy used by appliances, stereos, TVs, etc., becomes heat.

I’d say, oh, 99%.

Shades of Al Gore and his “LOW FLUSH” toilets. We are stuck with 2 in house we purchased in 1998, requirement at the time.

You know they are pretty easy to change for around $100.

I too bought a house in 98 and mine were normal toilets but inside the tank an open 1-gallon plastic bucket had been bolted under the central mechanism, so that a gallon was held back with every flush. I just turned off the water, emptied the tank, and used my Dremel to cut away the bucket leaving a flat plastic disk behind. I then showed all my neighbors how to do it.

I would venture that a move from 90 to 91 would be that costly.

Enviros live in a fantasy world. The ones I know are DINKS with a lot of disposable income or homosexual w/o kids. It is a rich man’s toy and helps him soothe the guilt over a life of conspicuious consumption. LOOK I am GREEN.

In my town all our recyclables are dumped, along with all the garbage and re-sorted. All the home sorting does nothing, but it does save a little on garbage bags.

Well no wonder he hasn’t had time to be personally involved with the details of the stimulus bill. He’s been spending all his time on important stuff like appliances and reading to children.

Would I be considered racist for saying it’s a shame that the first black President (I would vote in heartbeat for a black AMERICAN for President) is the worst President in history, and may destroy the chances for worthy future black candidates? If there ARE any elections in the future. In which case: Will it really help blacks in America if the first black President is the President who destroys America?

He screwed the auto industry with higher CAFE standards and allowing California stricter emissions standards. Now he screws with the small appliance manufacturers. The employee free choice act is going to jam unions down the throat of every business. One destructive act after the next. What a total jackass.

This is going to suck:

Lamps: Have to mandate CFL and/or LED.

Ranges: Have to mandate high-end ceramic or induction ranges.

Ovens: Have to mandate convection ovens.

All options are quite expensive, especially the high-end induction. They save a boatload of energy, but most people can’t afford a $2,000+ induction range (that’s just what fits in the counter, no oven).

Hey, I’m still fuming that my rinse cycles on my new washing machine are all in cold water only. The sales guy said almost all the machines were that way now - saves energy. Well, if I want to waste money on my own hot water then it should be my decision.

Shouldn’t these standards come from the Legislative Branch of our government?
