Sen. Stabenow wants hearings on radio 'accountability'; talks fairness doctrine

This morning, radio host Bill Press brought up the recent closing of liberal station Obama 1260 when speaking with Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow, and talked about whether there needs to be a balance to right wing talk on the radio dial.

BILL PRESS: Yeah, I mean look: They have a right to say that. They’ve got a right to express that. But, they should not be the only voices heard. So, is it time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine?

SENATOR  DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else – I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place.

BILL PRESS: Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the United States Senate this year, to bring these owners in and hold them accountable?

SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that’s gonna happen. Yep.

Although Obama has been publicly opposed to reinstating the fairness doctrine, conservative radio has talked non-stop about the fear of it returning (or perhaps something like it with another name) while there's a Democrat in the White House and a Democratic majority in Congress.

AMENDMENT 1 - Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The existence of tyrants like Stabenow and Pelosi, whose goal is the destruction of the Bill of Rights, is not what outrages me. It is that Americans have elected these tyrants, and then consider the notion of the "Fairness Doctrine" debatable. THAT is the outrage! We have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Freedom of speech is not a guarantee of an audience. If what one is saying is not worth listening to, the solution is not to limit what others are saying.

We need a Fairness Doctrine because the liberal voices need to be heard????

So how did not having a Fairness Doctrine enable this country to become a one-party government of the far left and left of center???

Thanks, Politicalmom, a bit late. I just wondered why when I see the word congress critter, the image of a skunk comes into mind. I heard this morning their rating is down to 9, thanks to all the Dims who voted them back in, expecting “change”. I guess they didn’t know the majority were Dems and were going to continue their destruction.

Here are my thoughts on the subject.

As has been pointed out many times before, this clown from Michigan does have a major conflict of interest. Her husband serves as the boss of a liberal talk radio network.

It should also be pointed out that he has had issues with messing around with other women.

Now, I would ask you, is this the kind of person you want deciding for you which radio programming you want to hear? I know I wouldn't.

Just becuase you're a liberal, progressive or moderate dosen't mean you know what's best for everybody. This area that this clown is representating has suffered at the hands of heer and her kind with high taxes and a very low standard of living.

I don't think we need her or her kind deciding the winners and losers in things like this.

Regards...........

it is important not to let leftists frame the argument. ask the mod to put “censorship doctrine” in parentheses next to the title.
