If you were wondering why Beyoncé and not Etta James was asked to serenade the president and first lady with "At Last" during their first dance at an inauguration ball on Jan. 20, you're not alone.
Etta, 71, whom Beyoncé went blonde to portray in last year's "Cadillac Records," is wondering the same thing, and she candidly expressed her displeasure during a concert stop in Seattle last week.
"You guys know your president, right?" she asked the crowd amid cheers (listen to it here. "You know the one with the big ears? Wait a minute, he ain't my president, he might be yours, he ain't my president. You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song -- she's gonna get her a-- whipped. The great Beyoncé ... But I can't stand Beyoncé. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day ... singing my song that I've been singing forever."

Gosh, I remember when fellow Americans were so pissed at President Bush. Called him evil, a murderer, a racist, and more I believe.
It's not about LIKING the president or his positions. It's about the agreement citizens make to honor our system, which is the greatest in the world.
I expect libs to respect a Republican president, so it would be hypocritical of me to not respect Obama AS president. The "not my president" stuff is juvenile and disrespectful of the system that makes our society possible.

I think what you’re seeing is a little schadenfreude; some conservative are glad to see liberals get a taste of their own medicine, so I can see how they might welcome the idea of Obama being dissed from a well-respected artist like Etta James. That having been said, I never liked hearing people say “he’s not my president” about Bush, and I don’t like to hear people say this about Obama either.
Etta James’ music is pure class.
Beyonce is a skank, and her upgrade commercial belongs behind a latrine peep hole. I could make better music with a cat and an electric razor.
It’s beyond me who “Beyonce” is. As I refused to watch the inauguration I have no idea who she is.
What do you want me to do about that?
Trouble is, I truly believe that it is greater than 80% or so likely that Zero is not constitutionally eligible to be my president. What does a citizen do? We’ve tried to make him show us his birth certificate and he won’t do it. Like him or love him, Bush WAS the president. I can’t say that about Zero.
I’ll bet! it’s on my list.
I refer to her performance in the Upgrade commercial as the siezure dance. I think they end up putting that gold UPGRADE necklace in her mouth to keep her from swallowing her tongue.
That particular battle is far from over.
