PARISI: Democrats' call for civility 8 years late

Peter J. Parisi THE WASHINGTON TIMES
February 4, 2009

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

The day before Barack Obama's inauguration as president, "Purple Nation" columnist Lanny Davis pleaded on this page for a return to civility in our nation's politics.

Mr. Davis, a proudly self-professed liberal Democrat, announced his co-founding of what he is calling the Civility Project in a bid "to change the polarizing, attack-oriented political culture that has become all too common in recent years and, instead, to bring civility back as the staple of American politics and life."

Sorry, Lanny, as worthy as your aims may be, that horse fled the barn long ago. And it was your side that battered down the barn door.

Beginning shortly after President Bush assumed office in January 2001 and running through his departure from the White House eight years later, Democrats directed nonstop invective at Mr. Bush, and his call for a "new tone" in Washington went unheeded on the left.

From "selected, not elected" to then-Rep. Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri calling Mr. Bush "a miserable failure" in September 2003 to Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid calling him a "loser" during a civics discussion with a group of teenagers at a high school in May 2005 to Howard Dean's many rants to the MoveOn crowd likening him to Adolf Hitler, the political incivility of "recent years" Mr. Davis decries has originated almost entirely on his side of the political aisle.

For the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee now to feign outrage (for fundraising purposes) at radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh's saying "I hope he fails," referring to President Obama's socialist economic agenda, takes some serious chutzpah - even for the DCCC.

And, no...

In other words, Republicans have to stop bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Amen.

“democrats call for civility eight years late”

showing civility to democrats is like taking expensive, beautiful pearls and throwing them at the feet of dirty, snorting, disgusting, slop-swilling, sophomoric swine.

IMHO

We’re not shrieking abuse and death-threats at them. We are simply arguing our case. THAT is incivility to the Liberal mind: - mere disagreement with a Liberal is a capital offense.

Pity the poor Democrats. They not only need Republican votes for political cover, but where do they think 70% of the volunteers who serve in our military to keep us free come from? And who generates 70% of the taxes to pay for their cockamamie schemes?

Sometimes, when there are too many riding on the cart, the horse just gets tired of pulling.

I wonder... Does anyone know of an online resource for all the mean, nasty things that were said or printed in the media over the years about President Bush?

“we need to treat the Obama dynasty with the same respect and honor that the democrats/liberals gave to Bush and Co.”

So we’re becoming what we hate?

We?

I don't think many here have the level of misunderstanding that you do.

Condensed, not honoring or respecting Present Obama and his agenda doesn't mean that conservatives will attack with lies and misguided straw men and death threats, etc as the liberals do.

Facts are all that are needed.

You want Obama to succeed with his plans?

He didn't decry it when it came from his side, so I hope he bruizes his fists as he pounds sand.

No respect is deserved for an anti-America Marxist Socialist Regime such as is ensconced in the White House.

Oh and let me add that Lanny Davis is a slimy back stabbing low life.

Republicans' memories are rightly too raw to simply let bygones be bygones.

Amen. I will promise this - I won't say anything about Obama that the unqualified, sanctimonious pretender hasn't earned.

(my day after the election rant)

Let’s review just a few of the Democrat Party tactics: They spent the first four years calling President Bush “illegitimate”, grown men and women in Congress (and the MSM) told Americans everyday that this President STOLE an election, they deliberately fostered hate and fear, knowing it was a lie. Nancy spent the last four years saying nothing but “failure, failure, failure.” It got to the point where Ring Around The Collar was Bush’s fault. She, Obama, and Harry Reid declared the Iraq war LOST and tried their damnedest to lose it, all to score political points and turn Iraq into another Vietnam that the Democrats could run against for another 30 years.

They stole our troops honor in death, and stole their victories. The entire Valerie Plame “scandal” was made up out of whole cloth by the Kerry campaign, in conjunction with David Corn. It planted the “Bush lied” meme that Democrats rode all the way through the 2006 elections. Then they pulled the Dan Rather bull with the fake TANG memos to try to nail George W. Bush. Only thanks to Buckhead, on a Republican internet forum, they did not get away with it. Ray Nagin refused to call a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, left 200 school buses unused, and made no contingency plans for getting people out of the Superdome or the Convention Center after Katrina. But Reid was right there to blame Bush.

No terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11. But all the Dems says is “we are not safer” and the media laps it up. Not to mention that after 9/11 ....SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON HOLDING UP A FRONT PAGE OF A NEWSPAPER, ON THE UNITED STATES SENATE FLOOR...SAYING BUSH KNEW! They started websites, made movies, wore T-shirts, ran protests with hanging effigies and Hitler photo shops constantly in order to destroy the President and the Vice President of the United States.

Now they have foisted an anti-American President on us...who sat in an anti-American racist church with his children for 20 years, and a man who has friends in the WeatherUnderground. This political party proved they will lie, publish forged documents, and try to lose a war in order to gain power.

I saw this site: From 52 to 48 With Love , in which the same group of spoiled little brats that threw a full-throated temper tantrum after losing in 2004 now tell us that everything’s okay because they finally got the kool-aid flavored lollipop they wanted. As Treacher says “There’s nothing easier than telling the guy you just beat that he should forget the depths you plumbed to do so.” Precisely. It’s a nice sentiment, but maybe you should have thought of it before taking the time to make signs like this , or apologizing to the world because those mean nasty Republicans didn’t let you win. Sorry, folks. No frakkin’ sale.

We remember “Jesusland.” And stuff like this . And if you have a few hours, scroll through Malkin’s “Bush Derangement Syndrome” archive. We remember everything - being called racist warmongers, Christianist nutbags, and all the rest of the vitriol you folks threw at us in your “AAAHHH CHIMPY MCBUSHITLER HALLIBURTON IS THE EVILEST” stage of political development.

You spent the last eight years engaged in a disgusting orgy of divisive political hatred and now you want to play nice and pretend we’re all united now? When we asked you to unite for the country it was in the course of a shooting war with an enemy who would like to kill us all. You told us to stuff it.

Jonah Goldberg wrote on NRO that the Democrats have spent the last eight years blackmailing the country: give us power or we will destroy America. We’ll stab the troops in the back, leak classified intelligence, block George Bush at every turn, loudly protest and bring things to a halt, do our best to drive the economy into the ground and make this country a smoldering ruin until you let us win. And now they want to kiss and make up?

I will laugh at every stumble he makes, applaud his mistakes and cheer his enemies. I want him to spend the next four years cowering in a corner while our economy crashes and burns and our enemies kick his bony ass. I want him to leave office a broken man. And I want every disloyal asshole who voted for him to share his pain. These rotten bastards poisoned the well for the last eight years, and I want them to choke on it now. *No* bipartisanship, *no *compromise, *no* surrender *

Create doubt. Question his judgment. Support his opponents. Ridicule his errors. Mitigate his successes with suggestion of unintended consequences. Refuse to praise his work. Challenge his advocates when they advocate; don’t let them own the conversation.
