Ann Coulter: SECONDHAND CHILDREN
AnnCoulter.com ^ | 2/4/09 | Ann Coulter

It's been weeks since the last one, so on Sunday, The New York Times Magazine featured yet another cheery, upbeat article on single mothers. As with all its other promotional pieces on single motherhood over the years, the Times followed a specific formula to make this social disaster sound normal, blameless and harmless -- even brave.

These single motherhood advertisements include lots of conclusory statements to the effect that this is simply the way things are -- so get used to it, bourgeois America! "(A)n increasing number of unmarried mothers," the article explained, "look a lot more like Fran McElhill and Nancy Clark -- they are college-educated, and they are in their 30s, 40s and 50s."

Why isn't the number of smokers treated as a fait accompli that the rest of us just have to accept? Smoking causes a lot less damage and the harm befalls the person who chooses to smoke, not innocent children.

The Times' single motherhood endorsements always describe single mothers as the very picture of middle-class normality: "She grew up in blue-collar Chester County, Pa., outside Philadelphia, and talks like a local girl (long O's). Her father was a World War II vet who worked for a union and took his kids to Mass most Sundays." Even as a girl she dreamed of raising a baby with a 50 percent greater chance of growing up in poverty.

Which goes to my thesis - poverty, like wealth, is very much a personal choice.

Photobucket

Ask a "poor" person: "why didn't you go to college?" "why didn't you choose a profession that pays well?"

There is no excuse for a man, unless he impregnated someone and stuck around (the latter rare in all communities, all but non-existent in black communities), and for a woman it is almost always the decision to get pregnant very young. Frequently multiple times.

The decision to be poor is frequently just that -- a decision. The libtards use the small number of exceptions (my mom was one) to justify keeping the multi-trillion dollar war on poverty alive.

Ann Coulter is plenty healthy, and a casual observer deciding that she is unhealthy is well...kinda uncalled for.

She is really skinny -- I worry about her sometimes.

And certainly that was no reason to attack me.

But I forgive you -- I realize you posted in the heat of passion ;)

Clearly, if a woman is raising children on her own, the qualities of that mother become even more important. Unfortunately, it is often a woman with poor abilities who makes the mistake of intentionally becoming pregnant while not in a stable family situation. So it is not terribly surprising that the result is poor.

As you point out, an woman who makes the much better decision to become pregnant while in a stable family relationship is more likely to possess the qualities that she will require to be a successful parent if she should suddenly find herself raising her children on her own due to some calamity beyond her control.

This point could probably be proved by a careful statistical analysis, but it hardly seems necessary. It is perfectly obvious, on the face of it.

STOP WORRYING!

She is OK

Heck, I didn't attack you.

I was merely pointing out that being so misinformed that you want to force feed someone is a bit of an attack, rite?

I've seen the “cheezeburger” comment at least a hundred times and finally decided to comment on it.

I forgive you too, as I am sure you see the error of your ways (he said passionately.)

Not quite on topic but the next time someone puts down smoking tell them the difference between smoking and abortion is that smokers live longer.

I don’t really need to see them to know that these two groups of children won’t have remotely comparable outcomes.

I don't think the children of well off or celebrity single women fit into either one of your categories. That's what Ann's article focuses on. I wouldn't bet much on the positive outcome in most of those situations.

. Ann is hot but would be hotter if she had some meat on them bones. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Anne needs to meed a red neck lumberjack who is 6 foot nine of solid muscle who can cook for her, and show her the need to respect meat.

Anne is gorgeous , but if she had about 10 to 15 pounds in all the right places, she would be drop dead gorgeous.

See? I was right in my exhortation that she pick up a few pounds.

I was the victim of persecution, I tells ya! Persecution! Character assassination!

No one has shown that there are similar risks for smokers who run marathons, either. There are probably about as many college graduate single mothers by choice (7 percent) as there are smokers who run marathons. And, unlike single mothers, smokers who run marathons look really cool.

Actually I am a smoker who has run marathons!

Mine too!

I think Ann has hit the mark here. But I was a little concerned - didn't Laura Ingraham just adopt a child? Has Ingraham commented on Coulter’s views?

I don't want to rain on the parade but I forsee a possible conflict.

To understand Ann, you have to envision conservative pundits in the trenches, pinned down by withering liberal fire...

Thank you very much!!
Love her!

Ha! They simply "decide" to have a baby, not get knocked-up by an acquaintance or bystander---or a turkey-baster!
