JetBlues pilots have voted against joining a union, a move that would have added complexity to the New York based carriers low-cost business plan. In a prepared statement, JetBlue CEO Dave Barger said:
We are very pleased that JetBlues Pilots have chosen to retain their direct relationship with the company. We will continue to work closely with our Pilots and all JetBlue crewmembers to ensure JetBlues competitive position remains strong and our culture remains unique in the industry. We truly believe culture, an environment of collaboration and the companys agility are key competitive advantages for JetBlue.

Good on them.
Smart move on their part. Jet Blue is doing fine, and adding a series of multi level leeches on profits makes no sense at all.
And thats all unions are today, leeches, folks.
great airline, great people. Let’s just hope that the thugs that are going to force “card check” on this country don’t screw it up.
Yay JetBlue!!
Isn’t the Head Honcho at JetBlue a big-time Lib and major ‘Rat donor? You would think that he would be insisting that his pilots organize...
I still loathe to fly, but if I had to, I certainly would pick Jet Blue.
If you call yourself a professional then you shouldn’t need someone to negotiate your job compensation for you. You should be able to do that yourself, and if you can’t then hire an attorney—it’s cheaper than paying dues forever. Good to see that these guys get it.
It all comes down to the employees voting for or against union representation. Management has no say except to campaign for or against the union (most campaign against).
In 1980 20% of the workers in the US belonged to a union. In 2007 12% of the workers were in a union. Let’s keep the trend going. Go Blue!
Actually I would argue professional athletes are some of the few who reasonably should be joining unions. Since the leagues are monopolies allowing collaboration among owners, the players need to collaborate to achieve a similar bargaining position.
