Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.
WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.
STEELE: Yes.
(watch video)
WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?
STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

Ronald Reagan wouldn't recognize your sentiments as politically valid. Republicans win elections by running conservative presidential candidates with broad-based appeal.
A simple statement by any Republican candidate along the lines of "I am pro-life and I will nominate constructionists to the federal courts" and "I believe mariage should be defined as being between one man and one woman" should be enough to satisfy any socially conservative voter, presupposing that the candidate has the record to back his statement up (disqualifying Mitt Romney in the minds of many). Social conservatism does not need to be the primary message of the Republican Party...the focus of any Republican candidacy should be on fiscal responsibility, tax cuts, a pro-business agenda, tort reform and national defense.
Abortion was not the focus of the Reagan Administration...winning the Cold War was. The next Republican nominee must be pro-life and pro-traditional family (this rules out Whitman) but the campaign trail must be a platform for emphasizing our disagreements with liberals in other political areas. We need as many fellow travelers as we can get.
GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice and then ship them to Africa.
marriage
Tolerance leads ultimately to acceptance, acceptance leads to normalization.
Please note that Homosexuality, was until recently, considered as a mental disorder.
Now we have begun to accept that Homosexual marriage is a good thing.
This as an aside, is why I believe Science is for sale, Kinsey was himself a wicked pervert, but led to the world, we live in today.
Each generation takes to excess, what the previous generation accepted in moderation.

I'm sure you mean well, but Steele goes beyond simply not rejecting them:
WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.
STEELE: Yes.
Hell, we may as well just compromise all the way, join the democrats, and sign up, for everything we can get!
Sorry, if you believe a 10 trillion dollar national debt, which will only climb with zero in office is just “another recession that we will come out of” you clearly don’t study economics in any way, nor have any intention of a liberty agenda
You’d rather have a litmus test to make sure everything is “pure” so when we are all living in poverty 20 years from now, at least nobody can have an abortion
You may need to re-check your priorities
What is this big brouhaha over Steele? He is pro-life and pro-marriage. Should he not reach out to get votes from people who are not 100% pure to the Republican platform?
“sensible Democrats”
Not sure they exist.
I am not giving up on Steele yet, he just started, I understand the game and what is said for broad appeal and what is said for true beleivers.
But I was hoping for something bold, it just sounds like more of the same, we have some very serious problems and little time to fix them by 2010. The RINO problem must be acknowledged by the uppper leadership, I know they cannot ruffle feathers much but at this point but we have got to hear something soon.
No, conservatives have been winning the cultural war in most all cases, BUT, the referees (or courts) constantly step in and declare the results unconstitutional and hand the win to the other side.
Every anti-gay marriage vote in about ten or twelve states has won, and by big margins except in California, where it still won.
This country is still more conservative than liberal, but we also have a good block of voters who decide based on general impressions of the candidates, and the general sense of "how things are going", or the traditional minority vote that goes to the Dems.
There have been recent surveys showing that the nation is still more than 50% conservative. And not that many young people voted, as usual, and how they vote at 20 will be very different for many of them ten or twenty years later.
The dirty little secret out there is women are going to get abortions regardless of how much legislation there is.
Young voters fear the GOP is going to take away their "right" to have an abortion just as much as the Republicans fear the RATS are going to take away their right to bear arms.
Give Steele a chance to defend this article before we decide to throw him under the bus.
Well I know plenty who failed, and if you looked to the election we just had, you might find some of them.
Amen. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: stick to principles and invite others to join the ‘big tent’. It is only when they attempt to saw off the tent poles that they need to seek shelter elsewhere.
Yes, but after years working in a school, and more years seeing great parents turning out great kids, I come down squarely on the side that places the responsibility on the parents. Sorry that offends some, but that’s the way I see it—parents have the responsibility AND the ability...if they will take it.

Of course you are welcome, milady.
Think of the G.O.P. as a huge family reunion. There are plenty of tables for each faction. Some are drinking Miller Lite, others imbibe in imported Irish stout and ale, and still others prefer a nice Pouilly-Fuissé. (I would be found mingling between the last two sets of tables).
Everyone has a great time, not necessarily associating with each and every faction. But in the end, we all unite for one common purpose, to promote the conservative ideal.
And the other half (and maybe more) of that is that most women in this nation would never consider having an abortion, no matter how much freedom of "choice" there is.
Thank you, ma’am.
In my conservative book, 50 million dead babies from Roe v Wade and abortion on demand, will always trump a $10 trillion debt.
Human life is sacred. Human life is more important then money. Human life is all about freedom and liberty. Without life, money is meaningless.
Its YOU who needs to reevaluate your priorities.
Pretty clear to me where the Founders stood... regardless of GODless activist judges that corrupted the law.
