Major U.S. banks sought government permission to bring thousands of foreign workers into the country for high-paying jobs even as the system was melting down last year and Americans were getting laid off, according to an Associated Press review of visa applications.
The dozen banks now receiving the biggest rescue packages, totaling more than $150 billion, requested visas for more than 21,800 foreign workers over the past six years for positions that included senior vice presidents, corporate lawyers, junior investment analysts and human resources specialists.
The average annual salary for those jobs was $90,721, nearly twice the median income for all American households.
As the economic collapse worsened last year—with huge numbers of bank employees laid off —the numbers of visas sought by the dozen banks in AP's analysis increased by nearly one-third, from 3,258 in the 2007 budget year to 4,163 in fiscal 2008.
It’s like being mugged. The mugger then goes out and buys up something we need, waits till we need it bad and then sells it to us at a higher price. Then expects us to be thankfull.
What about the Americans they displace...we have millions out of work...come on.

yep, and bashes American workers to justify the fact they really want cheap workers, but can’t admit it...these people are not patriots in any sense of the word.
But wait this can not be so...didn’t the free traders tell us that only menial low paying jobs would be outsourced and we would keep the ‘smart’ jobs...did they lie or bamboozle the American people?
Yes, the elite business owners...so many dumb Americans according to them...Hey and the foreign workers are so much better and more sophisticated too.
Driving the price of oil up certainly played a role in the financial meltdown.

I am out of a job as of April 1st so I feel your pain...no jobs here either. I work for GM. Target is laying off in fact...when you can’t get a retail or security job, the situation is indeed dire.
Yeah,the same crowd that went ballistic with GM’s much smaller loan...now they are defending the Wall Street banks and even opining that it’s OK to give bonuses using bailout/tax payer money. Nothing is to good for these Wall Street Bankers who destroyed our economy. There are contracts involved you know...same people that told me contracts with the UAW were unimportant and could easily be broken...it’s pretty funny. But we are socialist because we want to see the average American have a decent job...they are not conservatives, but are corporatist. There is a difference.

Foreigners are attractive hires because companies have found ways to pay them less than American workers.
The work is not the issue. Compensation is the issue.
I don’t know Hillary it seems that Wall Street credit default swaps had much to do with bankrupting Iceland...England is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy...nobody in Europe is in good shape...Wall street destroyed the American economy and may yet bankrupt Europe as well. I know they need these bonuses to keep such competent people in place.
