According to Fox News, President Barack Obama has demanded that the Department of DefenseObama Proposes Military Funding Cutscut its budget request for Fiscal Year 2010 by ten percent, about fifty five billion dollars. The brunt of the cuts will fall on weapons systems.
The proposed military funding cuts come not only during a time of war, but while Congress is demanding that the military expand to meet its commitments. Also, ironically, President Obama's defense funding cuts are being proposed while at the same time he is demanding a nearly trillion dollar stimulus package consisting of domestic spending increases.
Considering Barack Obama's wiliness to spend profligately on virtually everything else, one wonders why he had decided to skimp on national defense. It doesn't make sense, even from an economic stimulus perspective. Tens of thousands of people work in industries that manufacture tanks, planes, and ammunition. Defense funding cut backs would tend to depress defense industries, helping to defeat the purpose of an economic stimulus policy.

"Commenting on Gates' testimony at Politico, Heritage Senior Fellow James Carafano writes:
In his draft testimony, Gates wailed he'll have to make "hard choices" on weapons spending.... This, however, is a bad "hard choice" ... short cut defense to pay for seeding the Mall in DC and subsidizing Hollywood films (yes ... both in stimulus package) ... and yes ... the defense jobs that will be cut will be here in the US .... So yes, you got that right ... we are going to layoff high-skilled engineers to spend hundred-of-thousands of dollars to hire gardeners. There is a better way ... slash back the spending and social engineering in the bill and add the kinds of tax cuts that will really boost economic growth, the best recommendation I've heard is to reduce the corporate taxes by 10 percent ... and by the way - don't cut the defense budget. The world may or may not get richer in the next few years, it is not likely to get less dangerous."
Oh yes, I was waiting for this to come. After hearing that Hussein wanted more F-22s, a bolstered Air Force, and to step up the war in Afghanistan, I knew there was a catch.
I’m wondering if he’ll use the Klinton tactic of steering allocated military funds toward anything under the sun that ISN’T military, or work with Congress to kill funding before it ever gets to the military. He’ll probably do both...
the starvation of the military begins.
It’s OK. We’ll cover the weapons gap with increased spitball production.
This is what SHOULD be said:
Gates: “Yes Mr. President, we can cit $60-75 billion out of the budget.”
0bambi: “Good, do it.”
Gates: “All we have to do is close every military installation above the Mason-Dixon line and west of the Mississippi. Plus bring home all the troops home from Germany, Japan and Korea.”
0bambi: “Uh, er. Let me get back to you on that.”
Gates: “I thought so. Now, go take your nap.”
WTH!!!??? Why not cut the funding to the National Endowment for the Arts instead ?
That’s right, Barack. Take 55 Billion away from our courageous military men and women, and transfer it to the lazy bastards who stand on the streetcorners of Anytown, USA, sipping liquor from bottles in paper bags.
And don’t forget to cut back on essential military weapons that keep our boys alive in Iraq and Afghanistan, so you can send that money to the 300 lb. welfare mothers so they can continue to fill up their baskets at the superWalmart with steaks and frozen dinners and lots of pretzels, chips, cookies, and cake.
This is what led to the fall of Rome, and several other civilizations.
Turn it all over to the barbarians within the gates.
So, let me get this straight. The new Prez wants to build up the front in Afghanistan to find bin Lyin and simultaneously wants to pull back $55bil in funding....hmmmmmmmmmmm seems like a realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly dumb idea.
Reconstruction II is turning out to be every bit as bad as I had feared. Further, these clowns are just getting started.
Hussein has promised to cancel most new weapons systems also.
Again, don't forget this is coming from a man who,,,
gave 'aid-and-comfort' to our enemies during time of war with his incessant calls for a pullout before the job was done,,,
and that very encouragement to our enemies helped prolong the war and cost more American casualties!!
When this was on the news the other day, it was yet another sickening disappointment in The Usurper’s administration. He will be responsible for getting many Americans and others killed. Reckless decisions come out of this man’s mind everyday. He is our greatest national security risk.
Almost as dumb as closing GITMO with absolutely no idea where to put those terrorists!!
Talk about capitulating to the 'far left!! Geeeez, Neville Chamberlain wouldn't even have done something THAT dumb and totally stupid with absolutely NO PLAN....lol
I thought Barry was going to gain some cover by inflating the defense budget with his “Civilian Expeditionary Force”, the un-armed farse of a plan that would truly make DoD a “Meals on Wheels” world wide social program.
Well, the money for NEA has to come from somewhere,,,and don't forget, in the new Porkulus (Stimulus) Bill--
the $750 million for ACORN has to come from somewhere!!!
Did we expect anything else.
The money for our new GESTAPO,,,oooops, I mean "Civilian Expeditionary Force" will come from our military.
Don't forget, Hussein has promised to fund his new GESTAPO at the same level as the military--so a good place to start is by reducing the level of military expenditures.
The F-22 has a limited mission. After the initial 2 week air phase of a war what are you going to do with an F-22. Not that I’m prejudiced or anything, but the P-3 Orion has performed far beyond any initially perceived missions. That’s why the airframe is wearing. The Orion’s replacement, the P-8, should have its priority increased and numbers increased.
Hey New York, are you ready for another 911?
