NEW YORK -- Most Republican governors have broken with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for passage of President Barack Obama's economic aid plan that would send billions to states for education, public works and health care.

Their state treasuries drained by the financial crisis, governors would welcome the money from Capitol Hill, where GOP lawmakers are more skeptical of Obama's spending priorities.

There is no doubt in my mind that Sarah thinks this stimulus is garbage and bad for the nation.

That being said, she probably feels she is saying all she can. People can agree or disagree with that approach but it's clear to me where she stands. Governors are in a far different position than congessmen/women. If she starts speaking purely as a national politician, she will NOT be re-elected in 2010. She's already getting the crap beat out of her up in Alaska for her trips, etc.

Whether we like it or not, some form of this porkulus bill is going to pass.

I don't think that's what conservatives are really debating about, we know who's got the trump cards here but it would sure be nice if all GOPers voted against it, at least they (Libtards) would "own it" completely.

This bailout is a disaster and the democrats should not be able to claim bipartisan support when it all comes crashing down.

Nothing. I want it to do its job. Be the referee and leave the rest to us alone. They have proven they can not be trusted. We have allowed them to lie and steal in the name of helping kids and poor folks while making poor folks less capable and kids less educated. Yet we give them more and more money. We still proceed as if the government can provide better solutions to the problems in our lives when it continues to set up a situation where one group of people is enslaved to the needs of another. It creates a system that operates with disregard of whether it functions well or badly and when it functions badly it proclaims it only needs more money to make it function properly. It does create wealth it creates dependency.

Everywhere it has touched it has driven up costs. Education costs have skyrocketed since the government started making student loans. The cost of medical services has grown out of control as government became more and more involved. We need to stop the delusion.

Oh I totally agree, she is against the stimulus is bad but she thinks the Infrastructure portion of the bill is necessary, she has already been smeared by the Dems in Alaska for NOT asking for money, does anyone really think that someone who has NOT asked for more money is gonna be in favor of a bill that will make us into a socialist country, of course not. She is doing what is best for Alaska, that is her #1 priority right now, not running for President, but being the best Governor she can be to make her state prosper. Alaska’s unemployment rate is the same as the rest of the United States, they rely on Infrastructure, they rely on oil, she needs that Infrastructure portion of the bill to pass, that is crucial, it’s the rest of the bill that is total nonsense. Please, everyone, I suggest you read the letter Sarah wrote to fellow Senators, this explains everything

That’s a good point. Unfortunately, we all know the answer to that question. But the federal government does give quite a lot of money to the states as well. Some of it worthwhile; most of it for junk.

I have to give the MSM credit for putting plenty of mud in the water on both ends of this for Palin.

First they tell her constituents in Alaska that she isn't asking for enough because she wants to look fiscally conservative when she runs for POTUS.

I seem to remember that she told the Alaska legislators that they were well prepared for the downturn and are doing just fine, thank you.

In other words, if this is true, she once again has showed far, far more judgement, ability, and leadership than the entire house, senate, the Obamaloon/Clinton collection, and our MSM (bottom of the SAT group).

This is not a problem caused by the Federal government. This is a problem caused by very poor management within the STATE GOVERMNENT! Cut State spending!

This is actually not very surprising. States gave up independence from Washington when they ratified the 17th amendment. Governors are pretty happy to suckle from Washington’s teats. We the people are pretty stupid to put up with it.

If I were governor of AK, I would lobby for spending that is necessary for my state but argue against all the junk in the bill. There is a way to do that. This is the worst downturn in at least 25 years so naturally states will be hurting. Let’s face reality here.

Congratulations, you have just described exactly why government spending by definition can't work to stimulate anything except a politicians' quest for power. They will allocate capital for that purpose.

She isn't going to win the media over and she needs to worry less about them and more about the people.

Palin supports the infrastructure spending that is in the bill, which is worthy for her state. As I said, she can support portions of the bill which help her state but argue against the entire bill as it stands now.

The problem with this is you concede that the “stimulus” is ok, which it is not. The only real solution is for government to step back and release its death grip on the free market. I know this isn’t even a little likely, but playing with scenarios that accept the stimulus is the first step to capitulation.

What the GOP should do, at all levels, is to Just say no.
