The Budweiser Shootout, NASCAR's season-opening event, will return in 2009 as part of Budweiser's multi-year sponsorship renewal with Daytona International Speedway. Since its inception in 1979, the Budweiser Shootout has become one of the most anticipated events on the racing calendar for both drivers and fans. The race marks the start of a new NASCAR season and provides a benchmark for teams as they gear up for the annual Daytona 500.

The race distance will be increased from 70 laps to 75 (187.5 miles) on the 2.5-mile tri-oval. The race will have two segments of 25 and 50 laps with a 10 minute intermission after lap 25 to change tires, add fuel and make normal chassis adjustments. Both green- and yellow-flag laps will count.

Qualifying Procedure for the Gatorade Duel/Daytona 500:

Budweiser Pole Day: This “locks in” the first two positions – the front row – for the Daytona 500. It also establishes the starting orders for the Gatorade Duel at Daytona, which are two 150-mile qualifying races for the Daytona 500. The fastest car earns the pole for the Daytona 500 AND the pole for the first Gatorade Duel race. The second-fastest car earns the outside pole for the Daytona 500 AND the pole for the second Gatorade Duel race.

You’ve got that right. I’ve got my tickets for both races at PIR (April and November). It’s going to be interesting to see what the crowds are like. Last November was pretty slow at PIR but a lot of Americans were pretty depressed only a week after the “election.”

I think a LOT will depend on the tracks and how they go about selling their tickets this year and Jr was right about the hotels gouging people. They raise the price x3 in Ft Worth when Nascar comes to town. :(

And VERY important IMO will be the success of the top drivers, Stewart, Gordon, Johnson, Harvick and of course Jr. If they can make the races interesting and closely fought even with the poscot then the season will be good. Sponsorship is pretty much locked in for the big teams, the samller one car owner will have to scrimp and scrape I’m afraid. But, that’s always been the case.

BTW, there are fresh rumors of Junior dating Kelly Clarkson. I saw the rumors on an HMS board. I doubt it's true, since I'm a big fan of Kelly's and follow her career closely. I've seen absolutely no mention on any music or Kelly board of them dating. But back in 2006 when they first met, Junior's interest in Kelly was written all over his face — and in where he put his right hand in the hugging pic. So who knows. ;-)

I know. I think they went to night matches for the finals only a couple of years ago, which really sucks!!!!

I work 2-10 so I don’t run out the door 1st thing in the morning. It was nice to get up at 8 on Friday morning, and see the NadalVerdasco match still going. That was some kind of awesome, let me tell ya!
