MARION, Ky. In some parts of rural Kentucky, they're getting water the old-fashioned way with pails from a creek. There's not room for one more sleeping bag on the shelter floor. The creative are flushing their toilets with melted snow.
At least 42 people have died, including 11 in Kentucky, and conditions are worsening in many places days after an ice storm knocked out power to 1.3 million customers from the Plains to the East Coast. And with no hope that the lights will come back on soon, small communities are frantically struggling to help their residents.

“WHOA... I didn’t know that 42 people had died. Barry should command the southern winds to melt the ice”
Here is a little background on some of the deaths http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20090131/NEWS01/901310467. Looks like some were from exposure but some were from (hate to be cold) stupidity. Anyone that doesn’t know better to run a generator in a garage or use a charcoal grill inside their home may not learn from their mistake. Even most cases of exposure, though sad, can be avoided with a few simple precautions .... people survive these conditions in primitive camping areas quite easily.
The lib/Watermelon way to generate electricity is pure simplicity: 1) sacrifice as many electric utility and oil company CEOs as can be found on any one day to Gaia; 2) pour their blood on a tree while hugging said tree; 3) connect a green electric power cord to the tree while apologizing for the insult; and 4) draw electricity from the tree without violating the tree's special and unique dignity.
Excellent point and I've never heard it mentioned before. The rotor blades would be imbalanced at least, which would be enough to cause it to shut down.
Those people are just white bible and gun clinging rednecks (according to libs), so they have no political value and therefor are being ignored by zero and the media. Wish I was joking...
***Seems you had a plan which one needs for these type situations.***
I remember the March 14, 1968 snowstorm here and have been prepared ever since.
“A dry front” the weatherman in Tulsa said, we got over two feet of snow with drifts which shut down the area for weeks.
I learned to keep two cans of STERNO, matches, blankets and hard candy in the auto in case you are trapped in one of these storms. I still do that today.
Katrina (from the official White House website)President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur.
President Obama swiftly responded to Hurricane Katrina. Citing the Bush Administration's "unconscionable ineptitude" in responding to Hurricane Katrina, then-Senator Obama introduced legislation requiring disaster planners to take into account the specific needs of low-income hurricane victims. Obama visited thousands of Hurricane survivors in the Houston Convention Center and later took three more trips to the region. He worked with members of the Congressional Black Caucus to introduce legislation to address the immediate income, employment, business, and housing needs of Gulf Coast communities.
President Barack Obama will partner with the people of the Gulf Coast to rebuild now, stronger than ever.
More lies. More promises broken.
My question is where is the outcry, where is the news media’s moment to moment coverage of this story?
Wrong kind of victims. New Orleans is over 60% African American. It just feels better if we can call Bush a racist for not helping. /s
No looting.
I missed work as well. We were under a foot of snow. I want compensation for my pain and suffering. It took us two days to dig out. My check should be triple yours.
Obama’s fault!
Spot on. Well said.
Same here....I also strained my back shoveling snow, I want my SSI check too.
Good one. And you can bet even now Algore, laimstream media, and environmental wackos are trying to figure out how to blame this on: Global Warming, Big Oil, George Bush.
Could it be that the people in those state didnt vote for his holiness?
Obama= racism. Any white person who voted for him is akin to Jews who voted for Hitler.
Darn right! I’m a proud KY expat and my parents were born and raised around Pikeville in eastern KY. We’re an independent lot and proud of our self sufficiency.
We had a major flood in the early 60’s there; I was in the 3rd grade. Neighbors pulled together and shared resources and shelter. We had two families living with us for two weeks. After the water receded residents were out helping to shovel mud off the highway. No one sat around crying about how unfair it all was and whining for the government to come to the rescue.
When this sytem came through the DC area, Obama turned the heat up in his office and talked about how wimpy his new neighbors were for cancelling schools. Really ticked me off because the roads were a solid sheet of ice.
Kanas got it much worse and he’s going to have to admit this was a terrible storm, he was wrong, and send assistance out.
Yes. I have been truly disappointed by the lack of MSM footage of my feller Bible, religion, and gun-clinging WASP kinfolk dragging Rubbermaid totes and shoppiin' buggies laden with "liberated" electronics, shoes, clothes, and DVDs through the trash-strewn frozen streets of "Upper Lower Buggtussle Heights." (/SARC!)
>>He does it naturally. He’s an arrogant a**, but it’s a trait of a Marxist not so much the color. IMO <<
You’re right.
My BIL has he same “tilt back the head and look down the nose” look.
He is a white atheist libertarian.
It’s just arrogance, not color.
Well, I’m sitting in MI and feeling REALLY sorry for the people down there. It hurts my heart and I fear I’m having the vapors with all the anxiety.
Where’s my check?
