WHITTIER, California , Calif. The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week has six other children and never expected to have eight more when she took fertility treatment, her mother said.
Angela Suleman said her daughter expects a big challenge raising 14 children. The good news, she said, is all the babies appear healthy.
"I looked at those babies. They are so tiny and so beautiful," Suleman told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday.
Suleman's daughter gave birth to the octuplets Monday at a hospital in Bellflower but has requested that doctors keep her name confidential. Media knew little about the woman until a family acquaintance told CBS' "The Early Show" on Thursday that the mother is "fairly young" and lives with her parents and her six children, including twins.

They’re keeping her name confidential...but they give her mother’s name.
No one will ever figure out who she is.
I need to remarry a woman that is willing to have this many babies, in Alaska we all get a dividend check usually near $2,000 a year, last fall it was over $3,200.
With 14 kids and each one gets at least $1500-3,000 a year it would really add up!
Invested properly those kids could each be a millionaire by the time they reach 18.
Unless her name rhymes with 14, it's not going to fly.

The more I see things like this, the more I question my opposition to abortion.
I can’t imagine a scenario that makes a woman with six children being involved in an elective procedure that results in her having eight more anything but a travesty.
We can hold off on judgment as long as we want, but there is simply nothing I can think of that would make any part of this event less than sad.
This is obviously my own personal opinion (IMHO)and I’m sure there are many who would not agree.
Please don’t let this woman be an illegal alien.
We are. Just as we are paying for her other six 'fatherless' children, since she's a ""single mother"".
The doctor who performed the fertility treatments should lose his license to practice medicine.
Six children under the age of 7 and he’s treating her.
I suspect that since it’s California fertility treatments are covered by medical insurance. Most likely paid for by the state.
I’m glad there’s a daddy with a job. I hope he makes enough money to take care of 14 children, but I have a sneaking suspicion that some of their raising is going to be done on my dime.
Anyone who already has children should have to swear off public assistance before they have fertility treatments. Come to think of it, *anyone* should swear off public money before they have fertility treatments. The first, “natural” conception might be excused, but a turkey baster is intent.
When did Pamela Anderson turn into catwoman?
That was almost as fugly as Helen Thomas.
If the woman (or her family for that matter) had to support and raise these kids without pointing a gun to our heads and making us do it,
she probably wouldn’t have opted for fertility treatments.
Whaddaya think?
Turn your back on Him,
and he obliges.
Abortion wouldn’t be necessary if the people making the decisions were to experience the consequences of those decisions, and seeing others experiencing the consequences.
You can choose not to engage in activity leading to pregnancy, you know...
LOL - sorry! The next article down is about the Sulemans.
We’ve lived in California for 19 years. California may win the battle with us this year. No sane, mature person would put up with all the money flying out the door for other, less responsible people. We’ll see what happens.
I speak mostly out of frustration. I will be getting an IOU for my tax refund but I will still have to pay and pay and pay.
Why would you turn over to a pussy mechanic control over a woman's decision whether to get pregnant? Why should he have any more to say on the matter than a car mechanic? Remember, your objections to the doctor is that he did not override a woman's liberty, not for medical reasons, but for purely social economic reasons-because she already had six kids and you, evidently, do not approve.
We are already at the point where physicians can lose their licenses, or at least sustain some sort of sanction, for failure to practice abortions, why compound the error? How can we say, "doctor, if you make the wrong social choices and not overrule your patients when you should, we will take away your license."
We do not need conservatives saying this, I'm sure Barak Obama will say it instead. If conservatism is to find its voice and to have its voice resonate, it must be on the issue of individual liberty. We should recognize the vast difference between the folly committed by our selves and our fellow citizens every minute of every day and the extreme folly of criminalizing behavior, even abberant, eccentric, or self-defeating behavior. There are many many things that people do from smoking to overeating which cost us all money but we do not support depriving fat people of their Hostess Twinkies because we have to pay more for insurance.
If it is "cheaper by the dozen", who can say that it is not better by 14?
I saw this morning where the father is in the military, and is in Iraq.
This is insanity!
