What's good for Rush Limbaugh is bad for Republicans
National Post ^ | David Frum

Posted on 01/29/2009 9:48:49 PM PST by indcons

Gallup's latest polling reveals the continuing collapse of the Republican party's base vote. The news is so very bad that there will be only one possible response from GOP party leadership and our radio talkers: Ignore it.

--SNIP--

Instead, our congressmen talk to and about Rush Limbaugh like Old Bolsheviks praising Comrade Stalin at their show trials. Rush is right! We see eye to eye with Rush! There is no truth outside Rush!

Rush and Hannity and O’Reilly and Ann Coulter and the others have their place and their role. They spoke for an important section of public opinion, and it is a section our party needs. But it is only a section, and not the whole. The more the party allows them to become our public face, the more embattled and endangered the party becomes.

The relationship between these radio talkers and the larger Republican and conservative world has become parasitic and antagonistic. They flourish and profit to the extent they can polarize and radicalize. The GOP will recover only to the extent that it moderates and reaches out. They benefit from controversies that position them as the leaders and designated speakers for conservative America. But the more visible they become, the more our party is shoved to the margins and rendered unelectable. What is good for Rush is bad for the GOP, and what is good for the GOP is bad for Rush.

“Hey, a little bit of cancer won’t kill you,”

IT only takes one dormant cell to wake up and kill you. We need strong effective chemo to get rid of these malignant malevolent McRinos. Rush is the most effective pre-chemo treatment that I’ve seen. He wakes them up so we can knock them off.

Frum acts as if John McCain were not the nominee! We ran a moderate who reached out to the left, the media and anyone else. And how did that turn out?

I would see Frum’s point if we ran an arch conservative. But the party ran just the opposite.

In case Mr. Frum has been asleep at the wheel for awhile, we tried the moderate approach in an election in 2008 with an unprincipled and unweildy John McCain and got our lunches handed to us.

One would think we’d pursue something of a more principled stuff than the turncoat, wobbly-kneed mush offered by the center.

In their desperation to get the GOP to “reach out” they’re completely blind to the fact that when the electorate views the Donks and Elephants as indistinguishable the Donks win every single time, and that only when Republicans distinguish themselves by their adherence to conservative principles does the GOP flourish.

"He is our political equivalent to De Gaulle in England."

Not quite. De Gualle was puss.

Does this guy remember the term “Reagan Democrats?” There were millions of them.

Instead, our congressmen talk to and about Rush Limbaugh like Old Bolsheviks praising Comrade Stalin at their show trials. Rush is right! We see eye to eye with Rush! There is no truth outside Rush!

This is truly dishonest hyperbole.

First of all, when it comes to accusations like, "Old Bolsheviks praising Comrade Stalin", Frum needs to look towards the Dems and their messianic blind trust in Obama, not to mention that the Dems are trying to hitch America to a one-way ticket to a liberal social-economic gulag. What a stupid turn of a phrase.

And where are all these constant references to Rush by GOP pols? "There is no truth outside of Rush"? The only reason Republicans mention Rush is when they are asked to admonish Rush for some line that he said on his talk show.

Apparently Frum believes that we should simply swallow the stimilus bill that doesn't stimulate anything but in fact pays off and perpetuates a myriad of Dem-friendly constituencies. Thus Frum is asking the Republicans (and Rush) to support the bill that provides the knife that would very possibly create the death of the party by a thousand cuts...so as to prove we are moderate.

Jealous much, Frum?

I especially like the quote: “Rush is right! We see eye to eye with Rush! There is no truth outside Rush!”

Ironic—all I seem to hear is Obama’s Right.....there is no Truth outside Obama”

David Frum makes a good point. Why should we follow Rush Limbaugh when we can follow illegal alien, drug dealer, terrorist sympathizer Barack Obama.

Trying his best to make the GOP into a congenial irrelevancy, like the good old days of Gerald Ford and Nelson Rockefeller. Sorry, ain't buyin' it.

Call these guys the "Frump Wing".

To me Rush is Charles De Gaulle without all the french stuff.

De Gaulle's mic was base metal, not gold.

Clearly David Frum forgets that dissent is the highest form of patriotism. You can be even more patriotic by signing the petition to impeach Obama.

Frum’s like Brooksy with his column at the New York Times. Same problem: too much socializing with lefties, wanting their approval, and trying to score dates with them.

Frum’s words betray his dishonesty.

Does he not know that we see right thru this? Does he not know his audience? Who does he think IS his audience?

To me, he sounds juvenile, this column is not persuasive in the least.

Idiot! The GOP has been moderate and reaching out and they lost the House, Senate, and White House. To recover they need to get back to core conservative values.
