Special Editorial: Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois Impeached. 'Crazy Like a Fox?'
Catholic Online ^ | 1/30/09 | Keith A. Fournier

One of the most colorful Governors in U.S. history, at least since Huey Long, Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois, was just removed from office by a unanimous vote, 59 – 0 in the Illinois Senate. The vote was followed by another vote to prevent the Governor from ever holding Public Office again. Can they do that? On January 29, 2009, the colorful Governor who has held the fickle attention of the American public for the last few weeks, goes home to his wife and family without a job, a car, or any idea of the source of his next paycheck.

All of this was prompted by a recent FBI investigation led by Patrick Fitzgerald, a federal prosecutor who himself has built a public persona, to publicly bring allegations and then charges (itself a strange sequence) against the former Governor.Fitzgerald accused him of many things, all of which can be summarized as corruption in office.

He alleged that Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois tried to sell the vacated Senate seat of our new President Barack Obama. The results of this very public allegation have been extraordinary. Almost daily there has been a media circus on every branch of the new media. This unique character, the colorful Democratic Governor of Illinois, has landed numerous appearances on talk shows. He has turned the entire event into a global event.

If he has done what is charged then he should be run not only out of Office but out of town! But, somehow, I think this story has some legs.

He now has only one way to make any money or contributions..information on the various investigations in IL. He will sell to the highest bidder. Let’s follow the money and see who starts supporting him.

Look, Obama interjected himself (while being cleared by an investigation... he did HIMSELF) into this case so he wouldn’t be called as a witness on the impeachment. By then, the ADD media and country won’t be paying any attention to anything that happens at the criminal trial. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if the criminal charges were dropped soon.

This is all very fishy and I also find the fact that the stimulus has a part in it that says Illinois gets NO FUNDING if Blago is governor. I cannot see how that is legal.

This is a Presidential temper tantrum and a warning to everyone else on not messing with Obama. Plain and simple.

And it disgusts me.

I was hoping he could do a little damage on his way out. Maybe he still can.

Hmmmm... haven’t seen that take on it. Interesting.

I’ll have to pay attention to the outcome and remember this post, so I can either pat you on the back and say “wow, you are one smart prescient gal”... or else HA HA! WRONG!!!

‘cause it can’t go both ways.

"I was hoping he could do a little damage on his way out."

Give him a week, and then we'll read a story about his early demise from a heart attack.

I hope we haven’t heard the last of B-Rod.

I’m hoping he can bring down Emmanuel, Jackson Sr. and a few others with him.

I’d like to know what he discussed with Harry Reid.

Wtach Zero issue a pardon to B-Rod in the future to buy his silence. B-Rod can still do a lot of damage.

Justice Department Briefing on Blagojevich Investigation:
Patrick Fitzgerald, United States attorney general for the Northern District of Illinois [speaking to press]:
Published: December 9, 2008, New York Times

Excerpts from the transcript:

Fitzgerald: "In the governor words -- governor's words, quote, 'Fire all those bleeping people. Get them the bleep out of there. And get us some editorial support', close quote. And the bleeps are not really bleeps."

(snip)

Fitzgerald: "A month or so ago a $1.8 billion tollway project was announced. While that tollway project was being announced, Governor Blagojevich was privately seeking to have a person benefiting from that contract raise $100,000 in contributions, and privately the government (sic) said, 'I could have made a larger announcement but wanted to see how they would perform by the end of the year. If they don't perform, bleep 'em.' That's a quote. And the word 'bleep' was not the word he used."

(snip)

Fitzgerald: "The governor's own words describing the Senate seat, quote, 'It's a bleeping valuable thing -- thing. You just don't give it away for nothing', close quote."

Fitzgerald: "Another quote, 'I've got this thing, and it's bleeping golden. And I'm just not giving it up for bleeping nothing. I'm not going to do it, and I can always use it; I can parachute me there,' quote. Those are his words, not our characterization, other than with regard to the bleep."

Fitzgerald: "The tapes reveal that Governor Blagojevich wanted a number of things in exchange for making the appointment to the Senate seat -- an appointment as secretary of health and human services or an ambassadorship, an appointment to a private foundation, a higher paying job for his wife or campaign contributions."

Don’t sweat it. I mean, I personally have never ever been wrong*, but it can’t be that bad... you’ll get over it.

But seriously... not very well hidden in my teasing is the acknowledgement that you may very well be RIGHT. I make light of it but the thought of it makes me a little sick to my stomach.

*and if you believe that I have some stock in my 101K you may be interested in buying...
