Cancer-stricken Patrick Swayze 'stops treatment after doctors say there is little they can do'

By Jane Bunce 29th January 2009

Actor Patrick Swayze has reportedly given up chemotherapy Cancer-stricken movie star Patrick Swayze has reportedly given up all medical treatment.

The 56-year-old is said to have made the decision after doctors told him there was little they could do to stop the progress of his illness, according to reports from US magazine The National Enquirer.

The Dirty Dancing star was diagnosed twelve months ago with pancreatic cancer, one of the most virulent forms of the disease.

Medical experts say most patients have less than six months to live after being diagnosed with such cancer.

My friend died of lung cancer, the most prevalent, I believe, and yet most underfunded of the cancers; the thinking is, it seems, they deserved it though most or many didn’t smoke.

Prayers up for Patrick, his wife and family. Loved all his movies in the later 80’s.....and the year Dirty Dancing came out, “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” was our Prom theme that year...God Bless him and keep him through this...

He has my prayers. Seriously, I have never rooted for a celebrity so much as I have for him.

Another report says he hasn’t stopped treatment, but it does confirm that his doctors say there is nothing more to be done.

You’re right about that, V’s wife. Lung cancer treatment research is way underfunded and I believe it IS because of the “they deserved it” contingent in the public and among doctors themselves.

That said, I’m very sorry to hear about Mr. Swayze’s terrible illness and will pray for him and his family. One day the docs will finally understand what really causes this scourge and we can be rid of it forever.

Regards,

My mother passed from this, it’s nasty and GOD bless him for beating it for so long. She didn’t get but 6 months and it was bad at the end.

My friend’s only sister died with pancreatic cancer. I’m so sorry that there’s nothing the doctors can do. My heartfelt sympathies go to him and his family.

Godspeed, Mr. Swayze. You showed tremendous courage in the face of a poor diagnosis, fought a good fight, and for that I applaud you. May your family now be taken care of in the difficult days ahead and beyond.

Prayers up!

Unlike the vast majority of phonies in Hollywood, Mr. Swayze didn’t seem to make a habit of blurting out stupid, un-American, ideas.

Sounds like it’s time to go home, get straight with God and spend the rest of the given time with family. There are worse ways to go, not everybody gets the luxury of a long good-bye.
