President Obama signed his first bill on Thursday, an equal-pay measure that makes it easier for workers to sue for discrimination on the job.

The Lilly Ledbetter bill extends the period an employee can file a claim of discrimination for making less money than another worker doing the same job.

"That there are no second class citizens in our workplaces, and that it's not just unfair and illegal -- but bad for business-- to pay someone less because of their gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion or disability," he said before a packed East Room audience.

Boy, the RATs are moving their legislation through awfully fast and furious, and there's nothing that we can do about it. It's going to be a tough two years.

So, where are all the businesses that are kicking ass on their competition because they have all minority women who are just as competent as everyone else but getting paid less to produce just as much?

So, are they going to lower female salaries or raise men’s?

Exactly. Great for trial lawyers and awful for business. Hopefully the first case comes up - the defendant will sue for his birth certifcate because the law will be void.

Back in the 1980’s the company I worked for came up with a scheme to close the disparity between male Technicians with five or more years of experience in the field and the young women who had gone to tech school and were entering it. They stopped giving merit raises to the men. By this bill, women will have to get starting pay based upon the merit of the best male employee with the same job discription. This isn’t even the end. This will lead to the Doctor and the Janitor in the Soviet Hospital getting the same pay.

Once again, the Liberals do something that sounds good on the surface and in a headline.

Lawyers will win BIG under four years of Hussein. No wonder they supported him so strongly—as you ain’t seen nothing yet (when it comes to legislation that will make the ABA swoon).

It so easy to tear down institutions that took thousands of years to build, in this case, contracts.

The ACLU just had to lay off 10% of its workforce due to a dropoff in funding. My hope is that the laid of employees will all take the ACLU to court for unlawful termination and engage the remaining lawyers in court battles for years. Then the ACLU may be too busy to engage in mischief elsewhere.

Aren’t there already laws on the books? You will only get suits against deep pocket corps anyway. Most lawyers won’t take cases that won’t stuff their wallets with damages.

I hope this bill can be used by rich white men who are being squeezed out. :)
