A Long Island man says his ex-boss is a real beef jerky who fired him after deeming his vegetarianism to be "gay."
In papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, former Calyon in the Americas trader Ryan Pacifico says he was mercilessly mocked, labeled "a homo" and canned for not eating meat.
"You don't even eat steak, dude. At what point in time did you realize you were gay?" the suit quotes beef-loving boss Robert Catalanello as saying.
"Then everything changed drastically," Pacifico said.
Catalanello did everything he could to make Pacifico uncomfortable - including only ordering hamburgers and pepperoni and sausage pizzas for the weekly team lunches.
"I'm only ordering burgers. If you don't eat meat, too bad. I don't care," he's quoted as saying.
Pacifico is suing Calyon for unspecified "compensatory, emotional, physical and punitive damages."
The boss chose a steakhouse as a site for a team building dinner, and another broker suggested they go someplace else because Pacifico was a vegetarian.
"He was like, 'What's wrong with you? We're going anyway,' " Pacifico recalled. When a coworker asked what Pacifico would eat, Catalanello said, "Who the f- - - cares? It's his fault for being a vegetarian homo."

I have no problems with people being let go because they are meat-eaters or not.
“Food preference” is not a protected status under the Constitution.

If this is true, the ‘boss’ is a total idiot.
That said, I’ve always found veggans rather ‘militant’ kinda like former smokers.
Why would he work for someone like that? How ridiculous. “Oh boo hoo, I deserve million of dollars because I’m stupid enough to work for an @sshole. Oh boo hoo.”
He could have gotten “a big salad” at the Steak House.
Of course he could have. But that wouldn’t be ‘good enough’ in my experience.
That said, if the ‘boss’ did even a tenth of whats alleged, he’s the idiot.
The boss is a jerk.
He probably smoked too.
You know, science has found a cure for that vegetarian thing ....
Why couldn’t he just shut up and order something he liked from the menu? Grilled cheese or something.

I’m not sure why it tickles me that YOU posted this thread, but it goes.
I guess it’s the conjunction of “Ron Jeremy” and “meat.”
Lawyers todday make good money on the the ‘sweet’, thin skinned, ‘can’t ever be offended’, PC crowd...unfortunately the taxpayer gets to support the circus in the form of court salaries and building upkeep.
A lot of what people get into as vegetarians is the group identity of it . They won't say this, though, always claiming some other reason, but after being one for 15 years, and observing it up close and personal, I am convinced this is the main reason most people choose it.
Then they claim a righteous position from it, and no wonder other people, correctly perceiving that they have been dissed, become angry.
I am no longer one, and haven't been for many years.
If this article is a true representation of what actually happened the boss is an idiot. I doubt however that this is as represented.

He’ll claim harrassment in the workplace, which covers a lot. The boss didn’t do himself any favors with the homo comment either. This is liberal NYC. The boss is a jerk and is going to cost his firm a bundle, as well as subjecting himself to some kind of diversity training indoctrination.
I am confused. Homosexuals can’t be vegetarians. They live for meat in the can.
Why any of the above posters think that such grade-school style harassment and hostility is acceptable in any workplace, I have no idea.
