ScienceDaily (Jan. 28, 2009) A new scientific study led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reaches a powerful conclusion about the climate change caused by future increases of carbon dioxide: to a large extent, theres no going back. The pioneering study, led by NOAA senior scientist Susan Solomon, shows how changes in surface temperature, rainfall, and sea level are largely irreversible for more than 1,000 years after carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are completely stopped. The findings appear during the week of January 26 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Our study convinced us that current choices regarding carbon dioxide emissions will have legacies that will irreversibly change the planet, said Solomon, who is based at NOAAs Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo. It has long been known that some of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activities stays in the atmosphere for thousands of years, Solomon said. But the new study advances the understanding of how this affects the climate system.

So “Logan’s Run” was right, we’ll have to live in domed cities. We’re domed! Domed I say!
Polar bears deeply saddened!
Then why bother doing anything?

Q&A
With his 90th birthday in July, a trip into space scheduled for later in the year and a new book out next month, 2009 promises to be an exciting time for James Lovelock. (the originator of the Gaia theory, which describes Earth as a self-regulating planet)
Q: Do we have time to .. save ourselves from climate change?
A: Not a hope in hell. Most of the “green” stuff is verging on a gigantic scam. Carbon trading, with its huge government subsidies, is just what finance and industry wanted. It’s not going to do a damn thing about climate change, but it’ll make a lot of money for a lot of people and postpone the moment of reckoning. I am not against renewable energy, but to spoil all the decent countryside in the UK with wind farms is driving me mad. It’s absolutely unnecessary, and it takes 2500 square kilometres to produce a gigawatt - that’s an awful lot of countryside.
Q: What about work to sequester carbon dioxide?
A: That is a waste of time. It’s a crazy idea - and dangerous. It would take so long and use so much energy that it will not be done.

Is NOAA gonna be alive 1000 years from now to prove it right?
I want to know.
So what else is NEW?
Who know’s.. How do we even keep track of numbers anymore?
12 Trillion, 1000 years, 850 Billion....
They should just say some infinite time we will—————Fill in blank
Will those *Go Green* people now wear *Mud on Face*?
It upsets me that people can make claims that cannot be proven by anyone living now.....unless Helen Thomas is still kicking 1000 years from now.
Helen Thomas died 27 years ago. What you now see are her mummified remains.
Which change of the climate is it thats irreversible?
Where does the government get all these psychotics??
I guess the Super-Duper Storms, Tsunami’s and Tornadoes...
They want the little ones back....?
Proably Hollywood....
These people must think we live under ground and never go out side. The earth has been cooling down for the last 8 years. It is NASA who has been cheating on the numbers.
I’m sure that the GOP will find the gonads to defund NOAA and NASA and fire James Hansen.
Irreversible for 1000 years? Well at least it’s not hopeless!
