Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, "Zombies Ahead."
Chris Lippincott, director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation, confirmed that a portable traffic sign at Lamar Boulevard and West 15th Street, near the University of Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.
"It was clever, kind of cute, but not what it was intended for," said Lippincott, who saw the sign during his morning commute. "Those signs are deployed for a reason to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure."
"It's sort of amusing, but not at all helpful," he told FOXNews.com.

Yah, I know cold. I lived in Alaska as a wee tot, and in Central Utah growing up. Which is why I live in the Vegas Valley, now. At least we don’t have to shovel rain...
According to my sister, they (in Wasilla) have lots of global warming with temps to match!
They go to Las Vegas every couple of years. Once they move into the assisted-living condo, she’ll be able to travel more and be sure Dad is getting all the help and supervision he needs. Supposed to be before the end of this year.
Gotta love the globull worming, especially when we’re getting told that the ice caps are melting, while watching one form right on top of us.
The assisted living condo should be a real blessing to both of them. I will keep them in my prayers.
Right!
What they aren’t telling you about the icecaps is that while the north polar one may have gotten smaller, the south polar one has grown in proportion.
Sorta like making a piece of fabric longer by cutting some off the top and adding it to the bottom. ;o]
We have a lot of water to still add to Lake Mead, so we need all the rain we can get! If it comes from globull warming, then great!
If they don’t need any particular services, they’ll just have a small home with no yardwork to do. If they do need cleaning service, food brought in, or minor personal care (short of requiring a nurse), all they’ll have to do is call the office. And they can take their cat along!
That’s a good thing!
I’m so glad to see that older people are getting the help they need.
I think your parents will thrive there!
Personally, I’d love to have some global warming.
Gimme medieval warm period II.
Yepper.
Another reason to live in Vegas Valley...spring is only a few short weeks away!!!
They could live with us, but their own apartment will be more comfortable than a place full of byos and petz.
Speaking of petz, it appears the gerbil is going to pass away. She’s not moving much today. Old age.
Oh. Sad. How long do the gerbils live?
One of my birds is now two years old. The catz? Seven and nine.
2 to 3 years. We’ll get some more in the spring, since they don’t like being cold!
Yep. I’ll wait another month and then get another male ‘keet for Janice, the Valley Girl. I hope he’s sturdier than the last two...they lived about a year each, after being put in with her!
I still want to get a flight cage, and maybe that will make the difference. I hope.
I knew gerbils only lived a few years, but couldn’t recall how many. So much for paying attention in class... :o|
Like birds, some gerbils are hardier than others. The one we bought with Becky died almost a year ago.
And now I need to get lunch and then off to Girl Scouts. Just got the skit printed out! I need to assemble everything we’ll need for this meeting, stop by the Food Lion on the way for some drinks, and stop by the bank to make a deposit.
I hope you have a restful afternoon after all your exertion yesterday.
I got frustrated with the computer and went to Wal-Mart to get my ‘scripts then stopped at Food4Less and got some stuff I can’t find at any other store.
Now I’m back, and I suspect I’ll spend the afternoon knitting baby things. Or something.
My time could be spent in worse ways, I’m sure!
Whoa! Where IS everyone??
(Was it something I said?)
No, just Thursday. I’m back, I’ve eaten, and I’m having a Restorative. Soon I will begin putting epople to bed, or killing them, whichever’s faster.
I’m almost ready to go find more Restorative. This has been an ugly day for those who work as CSRs. Including me.
So tomorrow will be surprising for some folks who thought they were smarter than me. Or maybe it will be next week before they understand that old age and treachery will overcome youth and inexperience....
;o]
YIKES!
