Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, "Zombies Ahead."
Chris Lippincott, director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation, confirmed that a portable traffic sign at Lamar Boulevard and West 15th Street, near the University of Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.
"It was clever, kind of cute, but not what it was intended for," said Lippincott, who saw the sign during his morning commute. "Those signs are deployed for a reason — to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure."
"It's sort of amusing, but not at all helpful," he told FOXNews.com.

Finally!
I took my friend’s mother shopping at Macy’s, today. She shopped and I stood around waiting for my back to break. She bought a wool winter coat at 1/3 the original price and a cute little sweater for about 1/4 the cost and some Jockey underwear at the standard price.

Off to produce my “Tour of the Bahamas” skit. Maybe I’ll use a teleporter instead of a time machine. One can turn two brothers and a sheet into so many things.
Ah, the elixir of life, cheap California wine! Soon we will begin putting Offspring to bed. If I get the skit drafted tonight, I can type it tomorrow and have it ready to hand out to the girls. The presentation isn’t for another couple of weeks, but we won’t meet again before that.
OldTax-lady says she wants to come up for a visit early next week. My uncle (I guess they’re speaking again, which is nice) is taking Dad to the coast for a couple of days.

I was so busy with standing around (omyakinbak) waiting for my friends “elderly mother” that I forgot to eat.

My friend called and I told him I was cranky and for him to call me tomorrow!
Oh, well. He should take it reasonably well, since you spent the day with his mother.
On the one hand, he loves his mother and knows she is nearing the end of her life, and that every day she wakes up is a good day for both of them. On the other hand, they are like two kids...she is used to life with one of his brothers, and he is used to life alone...
Some days, it’s fun to watch the interplay and other days, I’m glad I don’t live there! LOL!
On the other hand, he feels guilty that he can’t spend more time with her and that he asks me to take up some slack in her life. I love her. She’s always been good to me, and she has a wicked sense of humor. So even though it literally hurts to take her places, I enjoy doing so.
I wouldn’t trade my time with her for anything. And I told her today that any time I didn’t want to take her somewhere for whatever reason, she would know for sure! She wanted to buy me something today and though it was beautiful (a pink cable-knit zip-front sweater) I told her that gas money was more than enough payment for taking her where she wanted to go.
(You’d like her, I know!)
I like spending time with elderly people, when I have the chance. Several of my good friends at church are in their late 70s or 80s.
She’s 81, and about 4’10”. A strong wind would blow her away. I feel bad that I live so far away (15 miles) and that gas is so expensive. But bless her heart, she is a lady and she is grateful when someone recognizes that.
She was in upper management at Polaroid before she retired 20 years ago, and she is well-traveled and educated. I don’t get to spend enough time with her, as there is so much I would like to learn about her.
Still, I’m grateful for the time we spend together.
That sounds like my Hispanic Ministry director (although I think she’s only 74, and she’s tall). She has a Masters from Vassar College, lived in Europe for 40 years, played four instruments before she got arthritis, and is a fire-breathing conservative.
