We all tend to get used to our weather but don’t do well out of our comfort zone. Here, below freezing , we close schools and freeways. It’s to protect people from injury. We don’t get enough cold weather to learn to drive in it. Northerners laugh at us but they don’t think it’s funny when someone mentions they don’t do well with humidity and high heat here.
Actually I don’t do well with the humidity and high heat here either ~ and look forward eagerly to the coming Ice Age!
We will get over 12 inches today in the upstate NY area in the lee of Lake Erie, and people will be out driving with few problems.
We have huge plows, lots of open land that accepts the piles of snow on the sides of the roads, and experienced drivers, who know which roads are less apt to get hit by drifting.
All that said, if we were hit by an ice storm, we wouldn’t be driving, and the schools would be closed. If I were in an area that didn’t have experienced plow crews, had drivers unused to snow and ice, I wouldn’t go out on the roads.
Who wants to be rear-ended or t-boned by an inexperienced driver who has no idea of a safe driving speed, proper distance, or how to approach an intersection when driving on greasy, slick roads? Who wants their kids out waiting at the bus stop, when drivers can’t control skidding out?
Obama is a jerk!
Like in Arizona. Rain is a huge deal. It becomes a flood here when it rains a lot. But, we can generally had over 100 degree temperature like nothing.
Actually, it’s to prevent being sued.
