Republicans join the cult of Barack Obama

Here's what Republican leaders are up against. Right now, Barack Obama is a global marketing phenomenon, a brand much cooler than the iPhone. Catch a taxi in DC, the receipt will advertise a DVD on the new prez "the man and his journey". Turn a corner and someone will shove a card in your hand trumpeting a "Classic and Limited Edition Bronze Bust" of Obama "masterfully crafted by renowned artist".

When Dee Dee Myers asks whether Obama "is the Most Famous Living Person Ever", it's one of those questions that doesn't really need an answer. You can scoff but who else with a pulse, at a particular moment in time, has been a more as ubiquitous an icon?

Obama himself was well aware how his persona could far transcend him, though I wonder if he even dreamed he could become. His adviser David Axelrod has just recalled how, early in the campaign, Obama said: "I think the American people are ready for Barack Obama. I just hope I can be Barack Obama, or at least the Barack Obama that they want and expect."

All of which is why "nearly as many House Republicans sought to get their photos taken with Obama as questioned him about the stimulus during their meeting" today, according to one GOP aide talking to Time's Jay Newton-Small. You just know that all their kids will be squealing with joy at their parent being snapped with him.

So you can see why Republican leaders are uttering barely a word of criticism about Obama at the moment. Taking Rich Galen's advice, they're concentrating their fire on the considerably less popular Democratic leaders on the Hill, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi - arguing that it is congressional Democrats, not Republicans, who are frustrating the President's vision of bipartisanship.

What do you think of this "legal" theory of mine?

1. Every state has its own statute (law) regarding the placement of political candidates' names on the ballot.

2. Nancy Pelosi, on behalf of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) signed a "Certification of Nomination" that was sent to all 50 states in observance of those state laws. That document certified that Obama and Biden met the constitutional qualifications to hold the offices to which they hoped to be elected.

3. Nancy Pelosi made a false statement on each of those 50 documents and had her signature notarized. (Another person from the DNC also signed the document.)

4. Nancy Pelosi should be charged by each of the 50 states' attorneys general with violation of that state's statute regarding placement of the names of political candidates for elective office on the ballot.

5. Perhaps it is only a civil infraction; it doesn't matter if it's not technically a "crime," because she can still be held to task for the false statement and thus the misrepresentation to each of the 50 states.

6. How do we know she lied about having verified Obama's constitutional qualifications? We know she lied because if she had been able to verify his qualifications, Obama would not be doing what he is doing—hiding his birth certificate.

I have been asked that before. But, I am unqualified to run for office. Mainly, I tell the truth, I don't lie, and I believe in God. Thusly, I am totally unqualified to be a politician. Honestly, my ole departed Mama, would slap me silly for hanging around with a crowd like that. She used to spank my fanny for hanging out with the retards who were in trouble all the time. Yes, it won't be soon enough when Obambi crashes and burns, when and IF! Remember this is a cult of a celebrity, known for being known, a cult like that of Elvis Presely back in 1956, except that he was known for some real accomplishments at the time. But the Pubbies in D.C. are afraid to speak up, lest they sound like Mitch Miller or Frank Sinatra did then, party poopers dissing the hero of a generation, forty years before the word 'diss' appeared in a dictionary and was celebrated by none other than Tom Wolfe.

And for many, (a couple of them found right here) Elvis never crashed and burned! Something to consider.

Nancy Pelosi lied when she told all 50 states that she had verified Obama’s constitutional qualifications to run for the office of president. If she had seen his birth certificate, he’d have no problem revealing it to the public — that is how we know she lied.
