The first captain called the room to attention. After introducing the superintendent, he announced, Ladies and gentlemen, the 43rd president of the United States! The auditorium filled with a deafening applause, much louder than the rather tepid response to the speech he had just concluded.
The president quickly motioned for us to sit down. His demeanor was far different than the one Id seen on camera hundreds of times before this man clearly was not comfortable being a politician. Far from the stiff that hed always been when reporters were around, he seemed relaxed, excited, almost like a kid on Christmas.
The next two hours were inspiring, amazing, and ultimately very revealing about who the commander-in-chief really was and what he really believed....

I always liked Pres. Bush...I never saw him as arrogant. Never felt he ever talked down to the American people as some politcians sometimes do. He may not have portrayed himself as the most intelligent person but I felt he had integrity. In a clumsy sort of way:) And I truely believe he had a great love for this country.
Didn’t post it, but thanks...I was just first on the scene to comment
I learned all I need to know about Bush and the military that time he made the surprise Thanksgiving trip to Iraq. What a rush.
“And I truely believe he had a great love for this country.”
You betcha.
Isn't 100% negative media coverage enough?

President Bush fist-bumping with an Air Force Academy graduate.
God bless him.
The Clintons were all about image, PR and spin. We had a slight reprieve from that for 8 years. It is now back.
Just a little correction.... the "chest bump" was at the Air Force Academy.
Unfortunately Pres. Bush did put himself in that position exactly when it came to the Federal response to Katrina. Yes, I know, it was the responsibility of the State and locals to deal with the immediate preparation/evacuation/response, but President Bush on the ground would have spiked a lot of the MSM bull on that. He was perceived as doing a “flyover” of New Orleans, and perceptions is what it’s all about.
On camera, its a different story.

On news camera, but not on still camera in thousands of pictures that we have been able to see, courtesy of the dedicated Freepers who posted his daily photos for the past eight years. Every day there were photos of him with people who he had often just met for the first time and was able to totally put them at their ease.
I especially loved the photos of him with children giving him wide smiles and happy faces.
If ‘news’ media hadn’t been so compelled to maintain the myth of the incompetent president, we all could have seen those photos in many magazines and newspapers, instead of just on Free Republic, and would have had an entirely different opinion of his interactions with people.
I have met him and can agree 100% with your rendition of how he is with people.
I seem to remember that more than 700 people in Chicago died during a summer heat wave while Clinton was president.
Funny, I don’t remember the media blaming him.

Great photos. He was a great leader, especially of the military. The media can’t ‘fake’ that kind of stuff for our Dear Leader...no matter how hard they try.
Do not attempt to present truth to the Bushbots as it is a complete waste of time. It is similar to presenting truth to a leftist. They never will accept that Bush was a big spender, that he failed on immigration, on Iraq, and on the economy. They approve of his socialist bailout. Consequently they never understand why Bush’s most recent approval ratings are only in the high twenty percent range.
***You must mean the, almost completed, border fence, the stepped-up ICE raids and the huge jump in illegal immigrant arrests, convictions and deportations. Or are you one of those diehard malcontents who insist hes weak in immigration?***
Beautiful! You must be one of those conservative Republicans I expect to find on FR. LOL! I am, too.
Down to Earth, heck yeah.
I miss him already.
No doubt Clinton would have enjoyed the volleyball match, too, but I can't see Obama EVER taking a pic like this one.
I learned all I need to know about Bush and the military that time he made the surprise Thanksgiving trip to Iraq.
BINGO!
I still get a lump in my throat from that scene.
