Geithner vote of 60-34 (near strict party line), Gibbs' Press Beatings, Pelosi's $300M for abortion, Obama's "I won so shut up" -- The speed with which the Obama Administration is going down is breathtaking -- and wonderful!

Agreed. Isn’t a hallmark of the conservative is to play hard, but play by the rules? Yet, we have those who gloss over a tax cheat...’it’s just politics *wink wink*’. under the premise of the stopped clock, I submit what the human drool-cup, Sheets Byrd said...

“While I believe Mr. Geithner when he expressed regret for his failure to pay these taxes, he doesn’t explain why the failure happened. This embarrassing ‘mistake’ occurred despite Mr. Geithner’s receiving annual and quarterly documents from the IMF and signing annual tax allowance requests that were supposed to serve as reminders about his tax obligations. He also failed to pay these taxes despite having accountants review his tax filings, and despite using software to prepare his tax returns. Had he not been nominated for Treasury Secretary, it’s doubtful that he would have ever paid these taxes.”

“This matter seriously undermines Mr. Geithner’s credibility to be the nation’s top tax enforcement officer. It suggests serious negligence on his part, and creates the impression of someone trying to game the system. Mr. Geithner showed poor judgment in waiting so long to pay these taxes, and then did so only after paying them became a political necessity. Certainly most American taxpayers do not have that luxury.”

“Whatever his qualifications and talents for addressing the banking problems that are currently plaguing our economy, I cannot in good conscience vote to confirm Mr. Geithner’s nomination.”

Wouldn’t that have sounded better coming from principled opposition?

Republicans always seem to cowboy up when they are in losing situations. Let’s face it, they are losers and do losing very well. Conversely, when they are in a position to actually win by fighting and standing on principal, it is then that they wither under any iota of Dem pressure and essentually compromise conservative issues and bow to the libs wants and needs. They do winning horribly.

This is who they are...a very infuriating bunch to watch. They can all go suck an egg for all I care!

Myself I prefer Machiavellian political calculations. Would I have loved Republicans to stand lock-step on this vote? Sure, but they’re were really only a handful of suprises and you guys are making it out to be the end of the world.

Please. When Obama’s economy continues it’s collapse, I want this guys hands to be all over it.

Meanwhile my addled Senator, Sheets Byrd, voted AGAINST. I sent a note praising his good decision. (finally. on something.)

Do you have any idea why he voted no? I know that "addled" is putting it kindly these days, so there may be no rational reason, but if there is, I'd be interested.

FRiend, I put his remarks on 121. As for discernment into any ulterior motives, I have none. Safe to say at his age, he has precious few.

How, pray tell, does that help us going forward? We know Voinivich is retiring.... are the people in the state too stupid or lazy to identify and support a good conservative over the next year?

We should have a good candidate in Rob Portman. If Ohio elects the likes of Kucinich, my family and I will consider moving to another state.

sending corker a set of kneepads tomorrow. man is going to get an earful too. called his office and got the standard. “he has not released a statement” bs before the vote. that’s NOT what i asked, i said. i said, how is he planning on voting on the nomination. office just repeated the statement that he had not released a statement.
hell, i think i’ll run against him. i’ve got time to build a campaign. he’ll probably vote like that for the next 4 years

I called his offices this morning. They said he was undecided

Undecided on whether or not he was a Republican, that is.

The headline of this Thread is inaccurate. It should be adjusted to state about 25% of Republicans in the Senate voted for a guy to oversee the IRA who cheats on his taxes.

To the person who expressed incredulity over people like Ensign being named RINO’s now; where have you been? Don’t get caught up in the terminology and recognize the real problem. It doesn’t matter how someone votes 50% of the time. Not anymore. What matters is who is in this for personal gain. Some guys vote for conservative policies because of the state they represent. But as guys like Cornyn demonstrate, those votes are not born of principle and when they believe it’s in their best interest have no heartburn going to other way. Sad thing is that this isn’t even about conservatism. It’s about fitness for the office and a tax cheat should be disqaulified and rebuked by both aisles.

The Republican Party is as corrupt as the Democrat Party. The only difference is that they are in denial about their fall from grace and they lack a killer instinct. Unless it’s directed at their own supposed “base”.
