January 26, 2009 6:29 PM

As special envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell heads off to the region to begin work on negotiating a cease fire between Israel and the Palestinians, President Obama has sat for his first formal TV interview with the Arabic cable TV network Al-Arabiya, ABC News has learned.

The interview was taped this evening and is set to air at 11 pm ET, as Mitchell is in the air and on his way to the region.

Based in Dubai, Al-Arabiya estimates that it has a potential audience exceeding 23 million in the Gulf region.

Yep, Abbas was the first foreign leader he called after becoming prez.

Thanks for the link, G8. I had no idea.

Don’t forget that his Attorney General, Eric Holder’s law firm represents 17 Gitmo detainees too.

....add this from his inaugural address, "To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.".....and the UN ambassador, Rice, just stated that we want direct talks with Iran......

We are going to need a big piece of paper to keep track of all the ways Obama is showing his love for the Middle East.

Depends upon how many agents are assigned to surveil.

Might be as many as 2, maybe 3.

Or did you mean “Americans”, as in the Muslims gathered around the TVs in the Dearbornistan mosques?

And just think,,,,

his first phone call was to a Palestinian leader.

Again, why would you expect otherwise from someone named HUSSEIN?

In the television interview, Obama reiterated U.S. support for Israel, calling it “a strong ally of the United States” and saying he will “continue to believe that Israel’s security is paramount.”

Obama went out of his way to say that if America is “ready to initiate a new partnership [with the Muslim world] based on mutual respect and mutual interest, then I think that we can make significant progress.”

The president declined to reveal where he plans to give his first major speech in a foreign country. In the past he had said he would speak in a Muslim capital sometime within the first 100 days of his administration.

And he reiterated a point from his inaugural address: He plans to reach out to Muslims around the world who are willing to “unclench your fist” but will go after terrorists who continue to be bent on destruction.

“Now, my job is to communicate the fact that the United States has a stake in the well-being of the Muslim world, that the language we use has to be a language of respect. I have Muslim members of my family. I have lived in Muslim countries,” Obama said in the interview.

He said that the United States must be “willing to talk to Iran” and that he would lay out a “framework” for those discussions over the next several months.

Yes, we all know how productive it is to ‘reach out to Muslims’. /s

It's mind-boggling to think that Hussein STILL got a solid majority of the Jewish vote.

Incredible.

Does anybody out there know what the hell our president is doing?

No?

I didn't think so...

I guess he sees himself more as president of the World, who shouldn’t be seen favoring Americans over others...

Yes, it does seem that he is more interested in what the world thinks about his image, than solving some of the really hard problems right here in USA.

And just think, it’s only been a week! This is ridiculous. His first call was to Abbas after the innauguration, and now his first formal interview is with Al-Arabiya. His actions are easy to interpret - he’s a sympathizer and thinks the US is bad. I don’t want the consequences of his so called change.

I agree that he's a sympathizer. What else could he be? I don't to deal with the consequences of this change peddler, either.

Does anybody out there know what the hell our president is doing?

Sure, it's pretty obvious.

He's ceding US sovereignty to more 'world government'.

Reducing our military strength.

Making a more socialist, more intrusive, more controlling, more expensive, more regulating, more litigious government while promoting a far-left, liberal extremist agenda.

It's the "NEW, NEW DEAL".

Is it time yet to get out the trumpets and march around the White House for seven days?

I’m a Geddon it. Ahmadinejad is in a hurry to usher in the 12th Imam. Guess he and Obama will have plenty to talk about whenever they sit down together.

“First phone call to a muslim.
First interview to a muslim.”

Refuses to produce a valid birth certificate because it says something he knows we would reject like, I don’t know, something like:

“Religion: Muslim”
