A US closure of Guantanamo Bay could deprive militants of a major propaganda tool and help Pakistan in the fight against extremism, analysts said Sunday.
Opened in January 2002 after the United States invaded Afghanistan to oust the Taliban regime for sheltering Al-Qaeda, the prison detained hundreds of alleged militants without judicial review.
As the United States sought to fend off accusations that tactics at Guantanamo amounted to torture, the prison became fodder for militants who used its imagery to capture young minds and recruit volunteers to drive extremist attacks.

Oh sure. Now they can claim victory.
These are people who riot and kill over cartoons, behead people who don't share their beliefs, and kill their own daughters for not marrying who they say. Something tells me that closing Gitmo is not a "major blow" to their recruiting efforts.
Hogwash! The terrorists don't need Gitmo as a propaganda tool and Pakistan is barely in the fight against Islamic extremism because the ISI is shot through with Islamists.
LOL! oh yeah those jihadist are just waiting for their “judicial review”. What a pant load, geez I hope this review didn’t cost any money but I’m sure the taxpayers paid for this load.
“A US closure of Guantanamo Bay could deprive militants of a major propaganda tool ...”
To make that statement, you’d first have to KNOW that it is indeed a MAJOR propaganada tool. I’m sure it’s used as propaganda, but a MAJOR propaganda tool that is actually going to affect recruitment? Absolute Nonsense.
Closing Club Gitmo? Now where will unsuccessful suicide bombers retire in comfort? I mean really, Caribbean sun, three squares a day, no hassles, no worries. Anyplace else will cost money and will not be as secure.

I find it interesting that these liberal reporters know what al Qaeda terrorists are thinking.
All it takes is one suicide bomber outside Alcatraz or Leavenworth (or wherever the gitmo terrorists end up) to scare the media into stampeding the electorate into insisting that no prisoners of war be held on american soil....
Picked up my a terrorist bug in the oval office...
Great!...No more terrorists!....Mission accomplished!...
Whats up next Rahm?...This is easier than I thought!....You know I won didn't ya...
This is rubbish. They don’t call them ANALysts for nothing.
The Obama administration will no longer torture terrorists. Going forward it is only logic which will be tortured. The media is obviously on board with that strategy.
They'll just move on to the next “propaganda tool” but claim victory for the closure on this one.
A glass of water up a terrorist's nose or the abortionist's implements?
Mostly it ensures fewer enemy combatants will be taken as prisoners.
How do you like THAT AQ?
“Smoke ‘em if you go ‘em....in your sights!”
Hey, if if works, we can even try in at home. Let's open the gates at Soledad, Pelican Bay, Raeford, Angola, or NMSP. That would really show those nasty street criminals' propagandists that we are tough on crime.
The only propagandists that this will “work” on are in New York, Atlanta, and LA.
The rest will throw a party to celebrate yet another American capitulation - and then blow something up.
If Guantanamo really is a major propaganda tool, it is so because it was made so by the leftist, America hating (but I repeat myself) U.S. media.
The article said — “A US closure of Guantanamo Bay could deprive militants of a major propaganda tool and help Pakistan in the fight against extremism, analysts said Sunday.”
Naaahhh..., I don’t think this will stop them from any and all of their propaganda. It’s not just based on Guantanamo Bay, but on the evil and false idealogy of Islam, which is a governmental/military idealogy disguished as a religion, in order to take over the entire world by force.
Does anything think that closing Guantanamo Bay is going to have any effect on that?
