I must say, as a British citizen familiar with the National Health Service, I found Carol Goulds recent PJM article praising the NHS quite fascinating.
From an emotional point of view, I could see why she praised them because they saved her friends life. (However, surely this is the job of an intensive care unit.)
But when I read further and realized that a major part of her praise came because the health care was free, it enraged me. Gould is an American who has lived in Great Britain for many years; my family and I have used the NHS system on a regular basis for over 40 years.
First and foremost, NHS health care is not free: every working person in the UK pays National Insurance whether they use the system or not. In addition, recently the British government has imposed measures to penalize those who choose to opt for private medical care, despite the fact that in many areas, NHS waiting lists for operations are too long...

It’s not just a disgrace. Why, it’s ... a model for our future!
Yep, B.Hussian's model health care system, coming to a state you live in! Darn glad I couldn't have kids.
OBAMAcare!!
My question is this...VERY IMPORTANT>>> Can the British sue the NHS for malpractice? If not. It will never happen here.
Bump for later reading.
NHS... Not Here, Sirs!
I have a Brit friend who waited 3 years for an operation to correct a problem with her leg. The condition wasn’t life threatening, but it was painful and caused her to walk with a limp.
Of, I waited 8 months for a VA eye exam.
Let's slip the word on the sly to the trial lawyers.
They and the doctors together will DOOM national health care.
Cheers!
How many doctors could you have sued for cerebral palsy induced by labor, under a national health care scheme?
Do you know if they can sue for malpractice in Britain? If not how will the Dems do it here.
Yup. I was a ‘Yank’ who lived there and had to deal with the NHS. The UK has a ‘two-tier’ system. You can go ‘privately’, or NHS. I tried both (myself and child). I can tell you which one was better (you won’t even have to guess). My NHS experiences were NIGHTMARES!!!! I won’t bore you with the details.
bttt
Daschle care promises the same for us. A new treatment could cure your cancer...too bad it costs too much.
