I would take the courtyard space, expand the size of cells and keep everyone in solitary for the duration of their stay in prison. We allow these inmates to organize and even to direct things that take place outside the prison.

If you deserve to go to prison, you don’t deserve rights other than simple clothes, a cot, a toilet, three squares, and a safe environment.

What is forgotten all too often, is that even if a guy has done something wrong, he is deserving of a safe environment inside the prison. That is not the case in any of our prisons today IMO. If I were to go in, I would want my own space and to be left alone to do my time.

Cell with steel door that leads to out side cage.

Make all the floors with a slight grade on them so staff can come through and fire hose down the floors to clean and wash all waste out to the connecting cages.

I often wondered if the Queenie type gays were the safest from injury in prison.

They are not confrontational and the idea of Man/Man sex can not be used to humiliate them like it would a hetro man.

Not saying they enjoy being gang raped but I dont see them as a threat to the formed gangs amongst the population.

I cant fathom a gang related hit/murder being made on a Drag Queen. But I dont really know.

Agree. The threads where people say "I hope he gets his in prison" make me nervous. We don't have a vigilante justice system for a reason.

I'd like to see one to a cell, and communications between inmates limited if they exhibit violence. Any suspected gang activity gets you in the hole for a year.

We'll have to stop incarcerating non-violent offenders to make that feasible.

I like that proposal, but with some form of communication available while in ‘solitary’. A person would probably go nuts in solitary confinement for lengthy periods of time.

Do I ever agree with you! Our governments are not using official captial punishment but instead are using jail-justice as captial punishment and torture.

Execute the ones who need killing and provide honest prison time for those who dont.

I agree that prison ought to be a safe environment. Things like shower rapes shouldn’t happen—there should be a guard watching the area to make sure it doesn’t. I assume there is too little manpower and bribes are probably a factor—”I’ll give you such-and-such if you don’t watch the showers for a while.” The answer might be privatization. I’m sure it’s not easy to fire a guard at a government facility.

Other than that, I don’t think you could really do total isolation. It should probably be run something like high school with nightsticks.
