SAO PAULO- General Motors plans to invest $1 billion in Brazil to avoid the kind of problems the U.S. automaker is facing in its home market, said the beleaguered car maker.
According to the president of GM Brazil-Mercosur, Jaime Ardila, the funding will come from the package of financial aid that the manufacturer will receive from the U.S. government and will be used to complete the renovation of the line of products up to 2012.

One word to Congress — SUCKERS!
Our tax dollars at work to send jobs to Brazil. Way to go Congress! Now they want more of our tax dollars? Maybe it is time for a taxpayer revolt.

Yesterday's WSJ reported GM was going to build a multi-billion dollar battery factory in Michigan. it will supply the batteries for cars that will command 2 percent of the public’s demand. Command economy, here we come.
To: MaryFromMichigan
Please explain why this is preferred over foreign companies manufacturing their cars here in the U.S.

I would take this with a grain of salt. The paper is based out of Caracas Venezuela and on the "about" page they speak of their "partners at The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and The Times of London."
Additionally, money is money. Once it goes into GM's coffers, it cannot be distinguished from money from other sources. So if GM spends $200 million at each of 5 US plants and $500 million at each of two Brazilian plants, who can say where each billion came from?

Our tax dollars should only go to companies that manufacture within the United States. In fact, any tax breaks should only be given to companies that manufacture within our the country.

Just let them die! Please, just let them die! I cant take reading this crap anymore. Don't worry, it's going to get a lot worse. When O'bummer signs us up the Kyota Treaty, your electric rates will double and the US loses their sovereignty over about anything.

Read real slow, GM was broke and could not pay any of it's creditors for the parts in the cars on dealers lots. GM had no money and has no money, it is all tax payers now.

Brazilians doing work Americans refuse to do!If they're following Ford's example, it's more like a case of investing in technology American labor unions won't let them use here.
