McCain: Not many regrets about campaign
The Hill, Washington DC ^ | 2009-01-25 | Klaus Marre

Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, said Sunday he had few regrets about his White House campaign and no second thoughts about picking Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

“I don’t have a lot of regrets about it. I think we ran an honorable campaign,” McCain said on “Fox News Sunday.”

The Arizona senator added that he was proud of things he had accomplished during the campaign and the people he surrounded himself with. In addition, he argued, the campaign may have made him “more effective here in Washington in these very difficult times.”

Asked specifically about Palin, McCain stressed that there were no regrets.

“I think the world of Sarah Palin. She energized our party. She has a bright future in our party. I’m pleased to have known her and her wonderful family,” he stated.

McCain noted that there is a great need for bipartisanship in light of the challenges the country and its new president are facing.

I voted Constitution Party and I also DO NOT regret it. McCain has always been a shill. I knew his run for president would never change that. W should never waiver in our beliefs. He was not the one we needed in there. He is proving that even now...everyday. I just wish we could completely lose him and those like him.

We are the ones with the regrets reference McCain’s campaign. Choice was for voting Liberal heavy or Liberal light.

I find it very easy to hate McCain. I have begun to wonder if there is not a worthy analysis to be done about his campaign that miraculously was raised from the dead, why, how, who...remember him carrying his own overnight bag and crying about being broke. What was this story and what happened?

“She has a bright future in our party.”

Mr McCain, I’d say she has a bright future no matter WHERE she goes. But I’d also say at this point...if I were republican, I wouldn’t be investing in sunglasses stocks.

I wouldn't say McCain "threw" the election, but there were obviously some issues which he neglected to raise and others which he brought up too late to be maximally effective. He was too "honorable" in his approach. If he really was "throwing" the election, he would never have picked Palin as his running mate.

The GOP has to revamp its primary rules in order to make it more difficult for a candidate like McCain, who was obviously garnering much less than a majority of party support in the primaries, from getting the nomination so easily. My suggestion is to get rid of "winner take all" state primaries, and to allocate some delegates to second and third place finishers in in all states.

My biggest regret is that the SOB won't say he doesn't plan to run again.

He hardly has to say it. No way he can make a comeback at his age.

“Now he is back at work as a democrat.”

Very pithy. It definitely bears repeating.

Let’s all be clear here.

GOP Primary voters did not elect McVain in 2000.

GOP Primary voters did not elect McVain in 2008.

Until Romney/Thompson/Rudy pulled out following the Florida primary debacle, McCain did not win a single GOP primary. He did win primaries where Democrats vote in the GOP primary though and in a place like NH (a suburb of Boston) and Florida (where the Dems had no primary so all liberals could do was sabotage the GOP).

John McVain has NEVER been a GOP nominee. He was the Democrat nominee FOR the Republican party. If McVain runs again, he will AGAIN not get the primary votes of actual Republicans.

I regret having to support him as a candidate, knowing he only wanted to win the Primaries to screw the Republican Party

“I think the world of Sarah Palin. She energized our party. She has a bright future in our party. I’m pleased to have known her and her wonderful family,” he stated.

A curious choice of tense. "I'm pleased to have known..."? Does this mean he doesn't know her now or did she pass on without me reading something about it. This guy is a complete jerk.
