Shhh. Obama Repeals the Abortion Gag Rule, Very Quietly
Time ^ | January 23, 2009 | Amy Sullivan

On the day after the 36th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, President Barack Obama repealed a Reagan-era policy that prohibited foreign nongovernmental family-planning groups from receiving U.S. funds if they provided abortions or even lobbied for abortion rights in their country. It is an action his abortion-rights supporters have waited eight years for and one they had encouraged him to waste no time taking. But by first issuing a statement urging support for common-ground efforts to reduce abortion rates and then waiting to sign the Executive Order late on a Friday afternoon — a time traditionally reserved for the release of information an Administration would like to bury — Obama sent a clear signal that he wants to turn down the heat on an issue that has defined and divided American politics for more than three decades.

The Mexico City policy, as it is known, has been one of the most visible differences between the two major political parties on the issue of abortion, in part because incoming Presidents have taken action on it within days of entering the White House. Bill Clinton repealed the policy on Jan. 22, 1993, citing his concern that the ban prevented women and children from receiving health services. Eight years later, George W. Bush reinstated the policy on Jan. 22, 2001. "It is my conviction," Bush said, "that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortions or advocate or actively promote abortion, either here or abroad." In a way, this is an improvement. President Clinton reversed the Mexico City policy loudly & proudly.

Surprised no. Disgusted yes.

That policy was based upon a simple but important principal: that tax dollars should not be used against the taxpayer's will for the murder of unborn children.

Husein is making each taxpayer complicit in the murder of the innocents.

This bast8rd has slid by under the radar his entire political career.

That now has to END. Its time to get him on the record as the left wing extremist he is, loud & clear.

I suspect that the ignorant masses who voted for Zero because "he's cool and good" would be surprised by this.

The problem is that they're ignorant, which is why they voted for the Zero, and why they'll never hear about this.

Lincoln stated, “Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.”

The irony of electing the first black as president is that we tolerate and even fund with our tax dollars the killing of unborn babies — effectively treating the child in the womb as non-persons and property.

Thanks, Dem for sticking up for the “little guy.”

More like sticking the little guy — 1.3 million times a year, now using our tax dollars thanks to the Great and Powerful O.

When precedent is overturned (e.g. Heller overturning 75 years of how liberals viewed the Miller decision) the liberals scream and holler.

But they can come in and overturn precedent that allows them to kill more babies and everything’s A-OK.

How many times have you heard the feminist argument that abortion is about a woman having control of her body?

I disagree. I think it's sneaky. Combine this sneaky move with him telling Sen. Kyl this week "I won," and we've got a guy playing for keeps.

This is the change the messiah brings. The government is no longer interested in killing terrorist, just babies.

The Time writer tries to award kudos for not being as loud as, say, Clinton, but Friday Dump aside, it still is a reversal and should be highlighted as such and not sugarcoated.

The real proof of his view will be whether the Freedom Of Choice Act is pushed through Congress and he signs it.

Now that is a very good point. If you don't mind, I'll use it when the opportunity presents itself.

I just heard them talking about FOCA on tv saying girls of any age would be able to have abortions without parental consent. They said girls as young as 12-13 years of age would be able to have an abortion. The discussion was among medical doctors and they said they could not have their ears pierced at the mall without parental consent at those ages.

Congress still has to appropriate the money. In theory, anyway, Republicans could filibuster until the restriction was put in the Appropriations bill.

Time to phone, fax, email, and write this so-called “Christian” who is exporting death to other countries. What makes the liberals think they have the right to use our tax money to export death? Unbelievable.

compare with this rag’s approach to a Bush thing:
“bang the pots & pans, shout loudly”

that title’s a command to the troops

Obama’s move, the latest in an aggressive first week reversing contentious Bush policies, was warmly welcomed by liberal groups and denounced by abortion rights foes.

The ban has been a political football between Democratic and Republican administrations since GOP President Ronald Reagan first adopted it 1984. Democrat Bill Clinton ended the ban in 1993, but Republican George W. Bush re-instituted it in 2001 as one of his first acts in office.

“For too long, international family planning assistance has been used as a political wedge issue, the subject of a back and forth debate that has served only to divide us,” Obama said in a statement released by the White House. “I have no desire to continue this stale and fruitless debate.”

Stale & fruitless...? Is this how a man who is self described as a man of HOPE looks at the struggle between life and death??? Or is it how he views the liberal side inability to conquer America on this issue???

How arrogant to use a phrase such as ‘stale and fruitless’ regarding the issue which will cause so many unborn children here and abroad to become just that: DEAD.

“The problem is that they’re ignorant”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

And a major reason for their ignorance is that they refuse to believe, “All the lies on the internet”. No sane person doubts that there are lies on the internet but it is also the only source for the truth now that the “mainstream media” have become the American version of Pravda or even worse. It takes common sense and hard work to sort out the truth and most people have far too short an attention span in this era.
Adding to the problem is the amazingly high incidence of WILLFUL IGNORANCE, I am astounded at how many people simply do not want to be confused with facts. If Obama was surrounded by ten thousand of his most loyal supporters with nobody else present he could pull a machine gun and kill fifty of them and the rest would convince themselves that nothing happened.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It is amazing how they can say that but when a man doesn’t want to work to support a child it is somehow not about his having control of his body, is it?
Watch some clown come back and tell me that I am trying to say that men should not have to support their children. We have some on this forum who could stand in a rain of pitchforks and still never get the point.
