Scientists across America are celebrating the passing of the Bush administration as the end of a dark age, a bleak stretch in which research budgets shrank and everything stem cells, sex education, climate change, and the very origins of the Grand Canyon became a point of conflict.
President Barack Obama has ignited a new optimism among the white coats. In his inaugural speech, he promised to "restore science to its rightful place," hinting at nothing short of a renaissance in the fields of health, energy, the environment and America's schools.
As a testament to that, the United States Friday became the first country in the world to approve a clinical trial of embryonic stem cells in human patients.
But in Canada's research community, Mr. Obama's plans have sparked anxiety that if this country fails to keep pace, it will have a tougher time recruiting smart people and convincing talent not to flock south. In short, Canada could lose its competitive edge to the Obama advantage...

Only our enemies are celebrating the “passing” of Bush. Now they have a Manchurian Candidate ready to pander to their every desire. Including pandering to the “JUNK SCIENCE” world which will push a lot of campaign dollars toward the left in 2010 and 2012. The game is not new -— same ole liberal playbook now with a TRILLION DOLLAR spin on it.
and the last new drug developed in Canada was?
Liberals (socialists, communists) worship at the altar of “faux intellectualism and abortion” (the Goddess FIA) and the God SELF with the blood sacrifice of abortion.
Sigh. . . I’m already sick of hearing his voice even accidentally on t.v. blaring from the other room.

CORRECTED:
American Socialists celebrate onset of Obama era of increased wealth redistribution in areas that will benefit them. Canadian Socialists are concerned their handouts won't keep pace.
Hundreds of billions of public money spent on “alternative energy” research by the federal govt over the past 40 years and we have almost NOTHING to show for it. The “rightful place” is for the private sector to perform most of the R&D and get the federal govt with its statist “industrial policy” goals out of all R&D.
The irony of course is that nearly all of Canada’s talent, regardless of field, has been “heading south” for decades. Those that remain, like the authors of this hideously bad piece, are for lack of a better term, the mediocre.
Correction: - entering a dark age, of spiritual and moral degradation, in which the disciples of Mengele and Kevorkian, pursue their vile evil.
Going after junkscience is not progress...it is ignorance folding into arrogance!
Read the whole repetitious and poorly written thing and couldn't find any quantification of this purported fact. Would seem to be appropriate to include this information.
The US was in the Dark Ages because Bush didn’t support gay sex training for kindergarteners?
Well, Obama has promised to fix that.
This would be sort of funny of these moonbats weren’t now in charge of the media, the schools, the colleges, and the left wing political parties.

Yes, dark ages indeed. We still have a high standard of living, good health care, etc but the constant lies and negative droning from the elites have convinced most Americans we are poor, sick, and miserable.
One scientific area that inspires many people is the space program. Space advocates like me are waiting for some kind of coherent new policy on that front but none has been announced yet. During the campaign he made all kinds of nice sounding promises about space (gee, what else is new!) but didn’t offer much of a real plan. The White House website was quick to trash Bush for breaking promises to New Orleans, but there is nothing on there about space. Time is a wasting. If they really want to inspire people and improve technology, the admin. would come up with a strong space policy. Instead, what we got during the campaign was that the big O was inspired and excited during the Apollo missions, 40 years ago! I thought we were supposed to look forward, not dwell on glories of the past.
I agree that the Space program is one of the few areas that promises to revolutionize mankind. Doubt that will happen though. Back in the late 60s, the Left discovered it could torpedo the Space program by asking: Why are we spending $$ up there, when we have needs down here? As if every dollar we spend on the Space program took a piece of bread out of a child’s mouth.
One way to rekindle the dwindling light of freedom in this country is rediscover the frontier and colonize the stars. The Left hates the thought of that—they would rather we be stuck on Earth forever. Humanity is at its best when we have a frontier to conquer. Without one, we will slowly devolve to Socialism. Space is a frontier without limits, however.
