She lost him at "hello."
Gov. Paterson was completely underwhelmed with Caroline Kennedy from their first conversation about Hillary Clinton's Senate seat, a source close to the governor said.
Paterson's thinking has become clearer in the two days since Kennedy withdrew her name for the Senate seat that Friday went to upstate Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-Hudson).
Friends said Paterson was adamant that she was never going to be appointed, even though she was considered the front-runner.
Paterson was turned off when Kennedy first called him and asked if she "could" be considered for the seat.
By asking if she could, rather than saying she wanted to be considered, Paterson immediately felt she wasn't really interested, the source said.
In meetings, the governor and his aides decided she had no political depth, the source said.
She had no firmly held views and little idea about why she wanted the job, the source said.
Her abysmal public rollout cemented the governor's fears that she had no political instincts.
The governor felt the sheltered Kennedy had no communication skills and absolutely no empathy with the voters, the source said.
He was amazed that she went upstate for a day to meet with political leaders but didn't walk around to chat up regular people.
"She just lived in a bubble," the source said.

“Liberal politicians who live in a bubble? I dont believe that for one second.”
LOL
FAT TEDDY.
Did you happen to catch Fran Driesher (aka, “The Ninny”) on O’Reilly the other day? She apparently lusted after the Senate seat too. What an incredible lightweight—I thought she would just float away. It was embarrasing to watch her answer questiosn with catch-phrase, liberal slogans. I really don’t think she has had an original though of her own. She wouldn’t confirm or deny if she even had talks with the Governor about it (I suspect he wouldn’t even return her calls).
These are all valid reasons to refuse to appoint Kennedy, and I would think better of any politician for discerning them. But Paterson is trying to make us all forget that she actually WAS his first choice. Now that she doesn’t want the job, he’s just coming up with a nice-sounding list of reasons why he didn’t really want to give her the job.
Ever hear someone who’s recently been in a breakup list all the reasons why you thought his ex wasn’t all that, but you know he’s just in the “sour grapes” phase, because she broke up with him?
Yeah, it’s kinda like that. Governor Patterson, you’re absolutely right about her, now. But she broke up with you.
BTW, there’s only ONE reason he picked Gillibrand over Kennedy and that was to appease upstate voters and therefor enhance his election potential in 10.
“If he gets taken out he will be forever a hero and icon.”
Ooh . . perish the thought! Increase the security detail. Of course, I certainly wish no evil on any President. I would hate to think especially about the specter of a white man doing anything to him especially. Talk about Civil War and “Whitey” never being allowed to show his face in public again... along with the annual MSM beating - all day long - all week long on the National Commemoration Holiday.
Aha, I'm not the only one who thinks she walks as if behind a plow!
The pictures of caroline make me think of the kennedy daughter that joe and rose had put to sleep.
I do think the ‘sources’ from the Gov. office should have let it lie instead of leaking any info. He would have come out better man for it and Caroline would be seen as a quitter.
Kennedy do not lose, Caroline quit before she lost.
She left a tea because Laura showed up.
She left a tea because Laura showed up.
Paterson did the right thing in this case, but I think it’s more a matter of the broken clock being right twice a day.
He handled things ineptly leading up to it in my opinion-the fact that Caroline was even seriously considered shows how wrong things are in this country—instead of people who know what they’re doing running for office, all we have these days are rich people’s kids-Bush, Gore, Jessuh Jackass Jr., Cuomo, and the Kennedys—or else we have Manchurian candidates, who came up in obscurity and were propelled to the forefront by America-hating entities (see Clinton, Bill or Obama, Barack) or else we have inept affirmative action candidates like Obama or Paterson or Kwame Kilpatrick, etc. Now we’re getting fifth-rate celebutards like Al Franken.
“the specter of a white man”,
That would certainly cause a war within the U.S.,
But, as often is the case a disgruntled black is just as likely to do something like that.
If that were to happen I wonder folks reaction?
Thanks, that makes it very clear. Admiral Oldsmobile is a great name for that Communist slob.
Oh, somehow I suppose they’d find a way to blame “Bush” - and “Whitey” as well.
What a bunch of tacky, tacky people.
Gov Paterson just went up a notch in my book. I’m sure he was under terrible pressure to just go along and appoint Caroline.
Just “tacky”??? You’re being very charitable.
Ethel was keeping pretty steady company with Andy Williams for a while. At least she was a widow at the time. Not sure about him.
Let’s see - Ethel Kennedy or Claudine Longet? That’s a hard choice, ain’t it?

Why are we talking about “Hillary Clinton’s Senate Seat?” I thought it was a New York Senate seat that the carpetbagger from Ark sat in for 8 years.
