Carter Center: Israel Could Have Avoided Gaza War
Middle East Online ^ | January 23, 2009

PACIFICA - Israel could have extended the ceasefire with Hamas if it had wanted to before launching its 22-day offensive on Gaza that killed 1,300 Palestinians, mainly civilians, said the senior adviser on conflict resolution at the Carter Center.

"Both sides violated the key elements of the ceasefire," noted Robert Pastor, professor of international relations at American University, during an interview with Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! on Thursday.

"With regard to the question of whether Israel had an alternative than to invade in Gaza, I think the answer is obvious, that it did, that an effective ceasefire, full compliance with the agreement, would have stopped the rockets without the terrible loss of life that occurred,"

The mean, nasty Joooooooos forced Hamas to fire rockets because they shut down the border crossings to Gaza. No mention that the reason why the border crossings were shut down was because Hamas was sending so many people with bombs into Israel to blow up any bus, restaurant or school they could get to.

Are the people at the Carter Center stupid, evil or both?

No kidding. An effective cease-fire means you cease fire. Whose fingers were on the triggers launching the rockets into Israel?

The writer goes on to demand that Israel open its borders to Hamas. Thats the last thing they should do. On the contrary, Israel must not allow access to Israeli territory by land, not for a generation.

If Gazans demand to be independent, they can't then demand access to Israeli jobs and markets. In doing so they admit that they are not independent, and never will be.

On the contrary, they should be demanding that the Egyptian border be opened, and that they have access to Egyptian jobs and markets. On that one I would agree with them.

“Gaza that killed 1,300 Palestinians, mainly civilians,....”

Up until now, the Hamas propaganda, and MSM stories (same thing) has said that about 1/3 of those killed were civilians (we're left to presume their innocence) — now, we're told they were “mainly” civilians. Will future reports say “killed 1,300 innocent Palestinian civilians”, with no mention of armed militants?

How can he say this? The palis have broken every agreement they have had with Israel, even when Israel gave them land.

Evil, stupid...yeah, that's fairly close. Give them time and you'll be able to add some form of "treasonous" to that short list.

Yep, an act of total surrender usually avoids war.
