65-68 million years ago is not sudden There may be something in the discovery that points is the desired direction. If it was ever in the story it was edited to save space. The way the story is written or published, it doesn't make any sense.

They didn't say the extinction took place over 3 million years. They said the fossil beds were dated at between 65 and 68 millions years ago.
