OTTAWA, VANCOUVER -- Same-sex marriage, they said, would be the slippery slope to polygamy. Just a few short years after Canadians engaged in a caustic debate over whether two men, or two women, should be allowed to marry, the prognosticators will find out if they are vindicated - however unhappily. The lawyer for Winston Blackmore, the man with 19 wives in the B.C. religious community of Bountiful who is to appear in court today on polygamy charges, says he will cite Canada's gay-marriage laws as part of his defence. It's an argument that people on both sides of the same-sex marriage fight were expecting: If same-sex marriage is justified under Charter rights to equality, then polygamy is justified under the Charter's protection of religious freedom In February, 2005, Vic Toews, who was then Justice critic for the opposition Conservatives, said changing the definition of marriage would open the door to court challenges from people who wanted polygamous unions. But even those who argued in favour of expanding the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples say they anticipated this sort of legal manoeuvre.

I disagree. If you are rich enough, it would be easy to handle. For the average Joe, its another story.
will the media report this
no
will they report of obama ignoring states rights and making it legal for all homo’s to marry
no
will the media say how obama sat down for his first meal at the white house

This is not pro or against polygamy but population growth in either a human population or a herd of deer is determined by the carrying capacity of the environment, physical in the case of deer and financial in the case of humans, and the number of fertile females in the population.
Barring genetic problems, how the females are impregnated is irrelevant to population growth.
In modern society, having one man man married to ten women would seriously restrict the ability to financially support 30 children that ten women married to 10 different men could easily financially support.
I know a lot of rich enough men that can barely handle their own wives. But then again you are now talking about these men (polygamy inspired men) attracting a bevy of gold diggers in order for it to work. Most men I know enjoy women that are not digging just for the shiny and glittering. Some men want a lot of cheap jewels, still others wait for the diamond in the rough that stands out from the cheap imitations.
Osama Bin Laden was a child of polygamy and look at how he turned out . . .
Of course not, they want GAY MARRAIGE to be = with Heterosexual Marraige like they are both the same....
Why not GAY POLYGAMY? I am sure they are all for that one..
That would be one big gay fest..

You gotta love Professor Gilbert's "view". She arrogates to herself, not to the people (since I assume just as in the U.S., gay marriage in Canada has never been approved by the people but instead established by court fiat) the wisdom to come up with a new "human right" that not only overthrows every tradition since the dawn of man but also flies in the face of just plain common sense. Then she insists only her "view of marriage" is correct!
I also wonder if even this "view of marriage" could be remarkably flexible, changing dramatically when faced with the much more substantial case of millions of Muslims now residing in North America instead of the relatively puny population of fundamentalist Mormons.
so they want homo marriage
then have 4 or 5 wives
then it is incest
then animals
hey it is done in their bedroom
it is not hurting you
it is not your business
it is about civil rights
it is about living each other

“Osama Bin Laden was a child of polygamy and look at how he turned out . . .”
So was Obama. There’s a trend going on here.
Unfortunatley, what is happening is that lots of couples who could easily afford kids don’t have them. They want stuff and good times and kids get in the way of that. Of course, what they really want is fulfillment and they think that only stuff can buy them peace. In reality, the opposite is true. Ultimately, there is nothing more personally fulfilling than raising your kids to successful adults.
I think the difference is this one’s written in Canadian,
e.g., “defence,” “manoeuvre.”
:)
These things have already been done throughout history and they didn't last long in terms of human history.
