Romney: Obama showing 'pragmatic bent'

Mitt Romney praised President-elect Barack Obama Monday for extending an olive branch to Republicans.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President-elect Barack Obama Monday for extending an olive branch to Republicans.

“He’s been already reaching out. He’s asked for the input of Republicans with regard to the stimulus plan. I think he is very much following the speeches he used to give during the campaign that he would reach across the aisle,” Romney said during an interview on CNN’s “American Morning.”

“I think he’s showing a pragmatic bent. And at a time like this with so many challenges, that’s the direction we’d like to see.”

Romney was one of GOP presidential nominee John McCain’s top surrogates on the campaign trail, criticizing Obama as too liberal on economic issues. Romney defended his campaign criticism Monday, but said that he has been pleased so far with how the president-elect has reached out to his side.

“I think he was liberal. I think his record was an extremely liberal record,” the former governor said. “I think what you’re finding is that he is making an attempt to reach across the aisle. And perhaps it’s the fact that there’s such a crisis in this country today.”

The Republican pointed to the $825 billion stimulus plan as the best example of Obama’s outreach efforts.

The Republicans (and deservedly for accepting it) will be beaten senseless with said olive branch.

I think Republicans would be smart to shut up right now. I don’t think they realize how grating their gushing about Obama is to their base.

You bet he’s reaching across the aisle! His ship with $2 trillion dollar budget deficit is going down and he needs Republicans to blame!

Another “Vichy Republican” rolls over into a fetal position.

This is getting tiring. I am waiting for someone to grow a set and say, “Not me...”.

Ah, the GOP has nothing but high praise for a marxist quisling. How quaint.

I liked Mitt Romney. I defend him against the mormon allegations and the phony Republicans who were appalled that a Republican candidate would spend money trying to beat their opponent.

But ya, I’m done with him. Sick of these RINOs.

On second thought, let Romney grate the base. The more he grates the base, the quicker he will drop out of the next election.
