WASHINGTON (AP) Sen. John McCain is imploring his Republican colleagues to drop partisan demands and let the popular president get to work.
The Arizona Republican made his first comments on the Senate floor since his rival, President Barack Obama, was sworn into office.
He said the nation has come together in a way that it has not for some time. McCain was speaking in defense of Hillary Rodham Clinton's appointment as the next secretary of State. Senate leaders had planned to confirm her by unanimous consent on Tuesday, but Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn objected because of concerns raised about foreign contributions to her husband's charity.
A roll call vote was planned for late Wednesday.

Who needs 60 ‘rat senators when they have McCain bought and paid for?
I wish Obama lost, yes.
That said, McCain completely is a Washingtonian of the worst order, with it all about HIS power and HIS acess to power.
I despise McCain and barely voted for him. Indeed, I only did so because Palin was on the ticket. Otherwise, I would have stayed home.
As the old saying goes:
Every dark cloud has a silver lining.
Now excuse me..(inspects then closes chamber, puts in mouth, pulls tigger....) /sar.
He’s Soros’s boy... and to see him straddling the fence reachin’ for more strawberries is nothing new. The GoP is so full of Trojan Horses these days, it’s a wonder we didn’t turn into a splintered party as we are now long ago..
There is a rare breed of folk known as ‘The Elite’,, they go by many names and belong to all the same social political clubs too numerous to list.. and stop at nothing to acquire power.
Follow the money .. or the Monets..
Enjoy the Media Corporate Gubamint Model. It’s the only game in town, unfortunately.
I can’t help but think that McLoser is as happy as a pig in mud about the current situation. He is in a perfect position to screw the Republican Party to the wall and gain his place in mainstream liberal history as a great, great leader. The election worked out for him in the best way possible. I regret that I went back on my many promises and voted for this %&^**($#>.
All they see is what’s visible in their little incestuous goldfish bowl in DC. Outside the fishbowl, the nation is bitterly divided. Even if they know better, it wouldn’t suit their plans to kiss Obama’s azz so they can hold what they’ve got and have a shot at getting more. We don’t have statesmen anymore, all we have are cheap political hacks. Every last one of them. The closest thing we had to a statesman just left the White House to the jeers of the lowlife trash who aren’t fit to lick his shoes, and that’s saying something when even he strayed from conservative principles. But I know without a doubt that he always loved America and was loyal to her. I don’t have that belief about a single one of the whores at the Capitol now.
“I only did so because Palin was on the ticket. Otherwise, I would have stayed home”
And if any big piece of Obamaslation gets stopped by the filibuster of Republicans, we can all thank her. Were it not for Sarah Palin, there would be at least 60 dems in the Senate. We have to stop any nationalization of health care at all costs. We have a naicent consumer based market developing that could solve the problem of out of control costs. If the government gains control of our health, what is left to control?
If the GOP no longer stands for conservative principles, then I’m no longer a Republican. It’s not football to me, I don’t have a favorite team. I vote for people who I think will best represent American interests and values. Right now I don’t think any of them do, and at this crucial time, I don’t think any of them ever will again.
Are you freaking serious??? You consider McCain a Republican??? Geeez....then there is no need to ever have another election...if that is the choice we have.
Do you have any other RAT who could defeat McCain?
How cute.
Johnny Mc is reaching across the aisle to his buddies — the Republicans.
You forgot the $50 heads of lettuce, LOL.
....I’m friggin RELIEVED this dolt lost.....
Me too!
LOL Thanks!
Barf.
His competition hasn’t declared, yet. It could be the millionaire businessman who almost defeated Kyl two years ago.
We watched part of this >pleck< today. McCain and that other RINO Susan Collins made me say some words that I am usually too much of a lady to utter.
I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington to be
Obamas poodle!
&&&
You called it right, doc!
Cornyn was great today. Good guy.
Ole Juan, butt kissing and groveling his way back into his old position as the MSM’s favorite RINO backstabber and underminer of the Republicans, and especially the conservatives.
Has he come up for air even once all week?
