They have been trying to shove this down our throats for years. The one strategy of increasing sales and property tax until we beg for an income tax has not achieved the results they wanted, so now with a heavy Democrat Senate they just may get enough support to carry this through.

The legislature can push all they want, but in order to craft a state income tax in Washington, the state constitution will have to be amended. The state supreme court has held that a “uniform and equal rate of assessment and taxation on all property in the state, according to its value in money” is required. So, according to the court, “an income tax based on how much one earns violate(s) this uniformity clause”.

A state income tax is forbidden by the Washington State Constitution. To impose such a tax, the state constitution must be amended. First the legislature must pass it, and then it must be submitted to the people via referendum. Only then can a state income tax be imposed.

Rosa Franklin introduces this bill into every session of the legislature, and every session it dies in committee. This time won't be any different.

Only 5 states in the USA still do NOT have State income Tax, Wa. included so far.

In Texas . . .ANY state legislator that mentions St. income Tax is IMMEDIATELY un-electable the following year. Its a well know Kiss of death for their next election.

With the success that Tim Eyeman has had over the past 10 years of getting initiatives passed that limit taxes and fees, I doubt that this idea is going to get anywhere near the kind of voter support it needs to pass, especially since it requires an amendment to the State constitution.

There are some lib/socialist legislators in safely lib districts who will continue to bring up these kinds of ideas and not get drummed out of office the next election, but overall the state population has time and again repudiated these chumps, even if their kool-aid drinking, statue-of-Lenin-erecting leftists in their own districts keep putting them back in office. But that seems to be slowly changing as more and more of the populace suck off the government teat and want more and more “free” handouts, which the lib/socialists are happy to promise them.

Eyeman has had a total of one initiative withstand court challenges. Regardless of his motives, he's little more than a snakeoil salesman.
