WASHINGTON—The one excuse President-elect Barack Obama's nominees shouldn't be using if they encounter tax and nanny problems is that they didn't realize there would be a problem. Since 1993, unpaid taxes and immigration violations, usually related to household help, have sunk more than one presidential nominee with the whole world watching. But a few have survived to take office anyway.

The law doesn’t apply to ‘rat politicians. Is anything going to put a stop to this blatant disregard of the law, that the rest of us would be behind bars for breaking? I doubt it. Our Republican “representatives” are going to go along to get along, in order to keep whatever personal power and perks they have. This country resembles more and more Rome in its last days.

I'm over 6 feet tall and 280 pounds - I am larger than 95% of the population. Good to know I'm exempt from taxes!

Oh, you mean little in terms of political power? Oh, well then...

Democrats have the votes and it doesn’t matter what Republicans do now. He is approved, and this is only the beginning. Next chance to help the country comes in 2010.

A couple of years ago my daughter was laid off from her job at a tech company.

She found contract work for about six months. Our accountant who is a friend of the family, reminded her several times that she must pay her taxes on that income.

Some of the other contractors bragged about not paying their taxes but she would not think of cheating and paid the taxes.
