Is there no solidarity among the Roberts of the world? Granted the first interview with the new president during one of the inaugural balls last night, Robin Roberts devoted a chunk of her precious time to laying the blame for the flubbing of the oath of office at the feet of Chief Justice John Roberts.
Pres. Obama responded graciously, acknowledging that both he and the Chief Justice made their mistakes. And indeed, NBCs Pete Williams, analyzing things at First Read this morning, points out that it was Obama who goofed first, jump[ing] in before the do solemnly swear phrase, which in turn seemed to throw Justice Roberts off. But that didnt stop Roberts for putting the rap entirely on John Roberts . . .
ROBIN ROBERTS: During the taking the oath of office, Chief Justice Roberts inadvertently switched some words up. You were trying to help him out there.

Go back and look at your own post of the transcript. How is "I Barak Obama do solemnly swear" by Roberts saying the oath wrong? Obama most certainly did open his mouth when he started to speak before Roberts was finished. Read the transcript or watch it on youtube.
I replied to you privately, for your unwarranted post. When we on Freerepublic want to say something apparently in your immaturity think that I or we are in need of being blasted by you.
Apparently, you have fallen in step with the “Great Ones’ hordes.
“It was a classic sign that Obama was conscious of the fact that he was lying when he took the oath.”
BS. He was nervous as anybody else would be.
Well that’s true, Hussein came in a little early but it was the second goof that was the big flub! Hussein just went blank after he began to repeat the line and stopped at the word execute. Hussein went blank.....and if Justice Roberts had not tried to help Hussein along with the rest of the line Hussein would still be standing there blank with his lovely wife smiling over the whole incident!
True and that explains why people are confused as to what actually happened. I watched it live. I get the feeling if Obama had just waited for his cue the whole thing would have gone off without a hitch. For a split second I cringed and felt sorry for Obama, but only for a second.
Now that the black man has succeeded to the throne of the white man, don' bodder me wid any ob dose racial accusaytions. Ya'll are grown up enough now to take dem in stride and pass 'em on by. Congratulations!
I replied (apologized...sort of) to you privately, also.
Yes I have! Here is my list of "Great Ones":
I tried to put myself in his shoes and I think what happened is that he probably spent some mirror time memorizing the oath and Roberts switched the wording around.
I just thought they were both nervous. I know I would have been.
Like I said before, where the cue comes isn't always the same. Watch some past inaugurals on YouTube. For Bush in 2005, the pause came right after the name, which is what Obama expected. For Clinton, the first pause came after the "solemnly swear," which is what Robert intended. It might have been smart for them to communicate about this beforehand, but either they didn't or one of them forgot what they'd decided on.
I'm wondering if they fixed it later. The Constitution doesn't say the oath has to be public, and it'd take them 15 seconds to make sure they fulfilled the requirement.
