The old cliche "politics make strange bedfellows" could not be truer as Obama honored his political rival, Senator John McCain, at an honorary dinner the night before the inauguration. During the 2008 campaign, there were heated exchanges between the two over domestic and foreign policy that were sometimes personal in nature.

On Monday night, January 19, 2009, Obama referred to the former Vietnam prisoner as a war hero who understood better than most really matters in politics. Obama called for a new spirit of cooperation in Washington. Obama began the speech saying, "I am here tonight to say a few words about an American hero who I have come to know very well and admire very much--Senator John McCain." It was a far cry from the anger and bitterness displayed during the presidential campaign.

Later, McCain spoke about his appreciation of being honored at the dinner by Obama. He commented that the two would not always agree but gave his word to support the new new White House in addressing the challenges facing the nation. In a copy of his remarks, he added, "I give my pledge to my former opponent, my new president, I will do the best I can to help you in the work ahead."

I can’t help but believe they WERE in a scheme to get O elected! I mean, the “personal attacks” were 1) hardly personal (aren’t personal attacks like “he’s got big ears” or “he’s a bed wetter”?) and 2) they were hardly classified as attacks!!! I mean, McCain put on one of the weakest campaigns; next to Doles! I think we’ve been played big time.

This is the most misleading and ridiculous sentence I've read in years.

McCain was a complete disaster IMO, his campaign was the most pathetic excuse of an election fight I've ever seen.

I'm relatively impartial being from Britain, but want to halt the spread of Communism in the World, but I was dismayed at McCain.
Sarah Palin, for me, was the only positive aspect of that campaign, she made a positive contribution, and the Democrats knew it, hence their aggression trying to discredit her.

I think that McCain was part fo the Socialist movement, I have no other explanation for the drivel he called his 'Campaign'.
He never looked like he wanted to be 'The President of the United States of America', and to be brutally honest, IMO he never looked like he could be.

Obama has written a new page in history becoming the 1st black President, the Republicans should learn from this, get their act together, scrutinise Obama's time in office, prepare a proper campaign and write another new line in American history in 4 years time, the 1st Female one, President Sarah Palin.

I know that this is off topic, but I do not see a thread on this unbelievable interview this morning on Fox and Friends! Did anyone see the Megan McCain interview?? When asked about Gov. Palin, she refused to comment! I am appalled!! When Gretchen asked her why she would not comment, she just said she is looking at the future, not the past. McCain, an honorable man??? Hell, no—Naval Academy or not, he and is family are a disgrace. I am ashamed that I voted for him.

Saw McC’s daughter on FNC this morning. The little twit refused to have any comment about Governor Palin.

The jealousy is palpable from that family. They know they were outshown by the Governor.

The re-election of Saxby Chambliss is all the proof needed.
