WASHINGTON — Amid the outpouring of inaugural joy over the racial progress represented by President Barack Obama, there was a single, humorous mention of work still to be done.

After the first black president had been sworn in, Rev. Joseph Lowery' ended his benediction with a rhyme familiar to black churchgoers:

"We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around..."

There was laughter from the enormous crowd. The 87-year-old civil rights pioneer continued:

"When yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen."

The crowd thundered, "Amen!"

Take it right back in the form of non-spending. Right or wrong, I won’t be able to look upon one of “his people” behind the store counter again without realizing that they did this to America, and I’ll be spending my wages somewhere else.

So blacks, browns, reds and yellows will HAVE rights, but whites must DO right. All the other colors will RECEIVE justice, but whites must BE just. Lowery's words reveal that he doesn't expect more from people of color.

It'll never stop, because blacks find it useful in getting what they can't, for whatever reason, seem to earn--what else can I think when they resort to these tactics instead of just getting money, honors, etc, on their own merit? And it'll never stop because too many whites buy into it for some unfathomable reason-I suppose for getting votes, if they're politicians, but I'll never understand why plain old "John Doe" whites buy into it. Why do they want to claim guilt for things they have nothing to do with?

At the very least, I wish they'd speak for themselves instead of making the whole white race culpable. I suppose they do that because then any white person who doesn't go along with it can be tarred as a "racist". If white people did the things and said the things that many black people do all the time, without restraint, they'd be accused of being supporters of the KKK.

And I'm still pizzed over that situation in Colorado re:the fire fighters. I know it's not the first time or the last, but we're talking people's lives here.
