Obama has always carefully phrased his statements on the subject to imply much more than they actually say. When he says "I'm not talking about taking anyone's guns away," he simply means he isn't going about gun control in that sort of direct manner, not that he isn't going about it in a more roundabout way.
The real problem is in Congress, where a Democrat majority will certainly be tempted to ignore Heller and pass anything they want, secure in the knowledge that it will take a lawsuit to undo, and that they can pass legislation much more quickly than the courts can process remediation. In the meantime, it's the law.
