BY WILLIAM BRANIGIN
Barack Obama took the oath of office today as the 44th president of the United States and pledged to "begin again the work of remaking America."
Addressing a huge throng estimated at more than 2 million people on the capital's Mall and millions of others watching on television, Obama recognized the multiple crises now afflicting the nation at a time of war abroad and economic turmoil at home. But he sought to rally Americans to a "new era of responsibility" and the promise of a brighter future.
He cited a profound "sapping of confidence across our land -- a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights." The challenges are real, serious and many, and "they will not be met easily or in a short span of time," he said.
"But know this, America -- they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics."
Obama continued: "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

He swore in a man who was explicitly exempted from holding this office.
From here on out, all the decisions Mr. Roberts renders are irrelevant. He has shown that his opinions are based on his own well being, and not that of the Constitution.
never saw the speech and have no desire to do so but someone on here just wished him luck and said it was a great speech.
What did it contain in the speech
The Constitution stipulates the language of the oath of office. Since Zero has specifically NOT taken “The Oath” of office, is he really the president?
never saw the speech and have no desire to do so but someone on here just wished him luck and said it was a great speech.
What did it contain in the speech?
We’re so screwed it’s not even funny.
So, you were in the shower?
in honor of this monumental occasion, I started rereading the Book of revelation on Sunday eveing
I got the impression, that as he was delivering it, he realized that he didn't have enough hard-hitting lines and that he was grasping for a way to salvage it. There were a few good lines, but one must wonder about his sincerity - time will tell.
Began with a blatant untruth “Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath.” since president 22 and 24 were the same man only 43 separate men have taken the oath.
But since his early education wasn’t in the US he probably still thinks there are 57 states.
Only when there's a Republican in the White House.
>>>What did it contain in the speech?
I thought it was a good speech and liked this line:
“Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends - hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism - these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility - a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.”
Yep, when he said “remaking” my skin crawled. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit! We’re so screwed, people!
That’s just what I was thinking.
I don’t want our country remade.
Oh gee, it’s too bad (/sarc) you missed the benediction part about reds getting ahead, yellows becoming mellow and whites doing what is right ... or something like that. I forget the rhymes for blacks and browns. We turned it off then. My boy thought the poem was written at the high school or junior college level and was not impressed. Neither was I — something must be wrong with my poetry appreciation gene.
America Held Hostage. Redux.
FREEDOM !
Even though I did not vote for him, I hope God will bless him and America for the next 4 years.
>>This is the start of the lefts radical agenda and I will not help them in any way shape or form.
We all know that he is good doing speeches it is when there is no script he looks like a pathetic clueless numpty.
No more present votes now nor can there be any nmore nice little bumper sticker slogans.
is it 2012 yet?<<
1. We are at war - to an extent we do need to be unified on that - but we can certainly press the President to keep his promise of not over-ruling the ground commanders about the safety of withdrawal.
2. 2012? I can’t wait that long - I want a new congress in 2010.
