Obama Sworn in as 44th President of U.S.

Barack Obama took the oath of office today as the 44th president of the United States and pledged to "begin again the work of remaking America."

Addressing a huge throng estimated at more than 2 million people on the capital's Mall and millions of others watching on television, Obama recognized the multiple crises now afflicting the nation at a time of war abroad and economic turmoil at home. But he sought to rally Americans to a "new era of responsibility" and the promise of a brighter future.

He cited a profound "sapping of confidence across our land -- a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights." The challenges are real, serious and many, and "they will not be met easily or in a short span of time," he said.

"But know this, America -- they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics."

Obama continued: "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

Roberts did indeed make that mix-up. However, if you listen to the very beginning, it’s clear that Obama jumped the gun when he ran over Roberts’ line. The Messiah was obviously nervous...

(LOL) You weren’t listening to the same Oath that I was. Obama was studdering and stammering around and left out parts of the Oath. Obama was very nervous..... The crowd response was lackluster..... What else did I not embrace what is right??

The Great Orator... was a babbling, uncomfortable poser during that oath. He all but hissed it out. It wasn't about nerves, it was about something else. He wasn't acting like that at any other time. And, even if it was nervousness... what in the name of Sam Hill is he gonna do under real pressure... because, that was nothing compared to what this man has taken on. Stammering, babbling, choking on the very thought of reciting that oath.

I got the impression, that as he was delivering it, he realized that he didn't have enough hard-hitting lines and that he was grasping for a way to salvage it. There were a few good lines, but one must wonder about his sincerity - time will tell.

He had some good applause lines that received absolute silence. He had to wait a while on another, until the reaction came.

When the report came out that stocks plummeted today after the inauguration, some of us here began referring to today as “Black Tuesday”....is that a hate crime?

that phrase “worn out dogmas” worries me. Does Obama even know what a dogma is, such as, oh, that old one about the existence of God. Worn out? Which dogmas are worn out? Human life is sacred, that’s another trite cliche from the past.
